Ge Lao Guan, the former residence of Xu Pu, a famous historical figure in Yixing, has high historical value, and the stone carvings such as Chu Ge Bei hidden in the museum also have high artistic value. Xu Pu (1428- 1499), a native of Yin Xi Village, Yixing. In the fifth year of Jingtai in Ming Dynasty (1454), he was a scholar, and was awarded the second place in palace examination. In the twenty-third year of Chenghua (1487), he was awarded a bachelor's degree in Wenyuange and a minister of rites. Later, he served as a minister in the Ministry of Housing and Official Affairs, and was recorded by Hongzhi for five years (1492). Xu Pu has been an official for a long time. After Jingtai, Tianshun, Chenghua and Hongzhi, he was known as the "elder of the Four Dynasties".

Gele Pavilion was built in Hongzhi period of Ming Dynasty, which was a mansion built by Xu Pu after he retired from his hometown. Because Xu Pu entered the cabinet as Xiang 12, also known as Xu Gelao, his hometown called his building Pavilion Old Hall. Most of the buildings were destroyed in Xianfeng period of Qing Dynasty and rebuilt in Guangxu period.

The old pavilion building is north-south, with two axes, each with four entrances, and Jingxi is in the south. It is a large-scale Ming Dynasty architectural complex. In the late 1990s, due to the transformation of the old city, most of its buildings were demolished, leaving only two or four entrances on the east axis, with a total width of 30 meters and a depth of 40.50 meters. The second is to enter the hard top, with five rooms 19.20m wide and eight rooms 12m deep. The third one entered the hard peak, and the width of the three rooms was 2 1 m, and the depth was 8 grids and 9.35 meters. The original name of the entrance is Huatang, that is, "Baihutang", also known as "Baoyitang". The beams and beams in the hall used to be painted, but now they don't exist. On its north wall, there are many stone carvings engraved with "Chu Ge Bei" written by Su Dongpo, a great writer in the Northern Song Dynasty, Zhou Bida, a prime minister in the Southern Song Dynasty, and Zhao and Xu Pu, great calligraphers in the Yuan Dynasty. The fourth entrance is 29.50 meters wide, with nine rooms and 7.80 meters deep, with eight frames.
