(Master Hongyi) Li Shutong and Farewell
Master Hongyi (1880- 1942)
Master Hongyi, common name Li Shutong, was born in Tianjin, Zhejiang. He is not only a talented art educator, but also a famous all-round monk in the 20th century.
This master of "Twenty Shocking Seas" who combines poetry, ci, calligraphy and painting, seal cutting, music, drama and literature has created splendid Chinese culture and art in many fields.
He was famous for his calligraphy in his early years. After becoming a monk, he strictly abided by the precepts and integrated calligraphy with Buddhism, forming a unique calligraphy style. He pushed China's ancient calligraphy art to the extreme, saying that it was "simple and perfect, just like nature itself", and modern cultural celebrities such as Lu Xun and Guo Moruo were all proud of winning the master's paintings.
He was the first pioneer to spread western music to China. His farewell songs have been sung for decades and become classics. At the same time, he was also the first teacher in China to create nude sketches. Outstanding artistic attainments have cultivated some cultural celebrities, such as the famous painter Feng Zikai and musician Liu Zhiping.
He painstakingly worshiped Buddha, did not eat after noon, intensively studied jurisprudence, promoted Buddhism, and helped all beings get out of their misery. He was regarded as the 11th ancestor of Legalism by Buddhist disciples.
He left the world with inexhaustible spiritual wealth, and his life was full of legends. He is a typical figure of China's magnificence and simplicity.
Master Hongyi's last words, mixed with sorrow and joy, passed away on the evening of1June, 94213rd. The handwriting of "the intersection of sadness and joy" was written in the afternoon of June 10, and it is still strong on a piece of used paper. What people feel is the detachment of Master Hongyi when he put pen to paper. This calligraphy, which is extremely important for later generations, is at his fingertips.
Li Shutong wrote many songs with high artistic value after becoming a monk. He was a pioneer in introducing western art into China. In the field of music, he should be one of the earliest composers who used western composing techniques. In addition to writing his own lyrics, he likes to use his own creative methods to choose western tunes and promote western songs and composition methods. His lyrics are very beautiful and harmonious, such as Farewell, which has been infecting people today.
It is worth mentioning that when Li Shutong began to write songs, it was actually the beginning of modern music in China or, to be exact, modern songs in China (modern songs in China began to develop from school songs), and in the creation of school songs, Shen Xingong and Li Shutong were the most prominent. It should be said that compared with the songwriters in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, many of Li Shutong's songs are far superior to his contemporaries in artistic value and communication. It is precisely because of his promotion of western composition that China's song creation entered a new stage. Therefore, it can be said that he played a pioneer and guide role in the history of China's song development. In this sense, he is a person worthy of respect by any songwriter. After all, we have all heard of goodbyes. After all, we were all touched by it, which he left nearly a century ago.
I can sing many songs, but not all of them can move me. Few songs can make me drunk like wine, shock me like lightning, and wedge my feelings into my heart at a certain moment. Farewell is one of them.
This song is as heavy and clear as a landmark in my mind, and every special appearance has left a deep memory for me.
This song was written by an American and composed by Li Shutong. It was first heard 20 years ago. The film "Old Things in the South of the City" uses a sad story and a lonely picture to well interpret the situation of "the ancient road outside Changting, the grass is blue and the sky is blue". At that time, when I was young, I just thought it was nice and easy to sing.
In the later days, I found the music score and began to play it with the harmonica and guitar. I began to pay attention to Li Shutong. I wonder what kind of person this is who can fill in ancient words with western music scores, and is so beautiful and artistic. Needless to say, this was a great idea in the old days of literary enlightenment at that time, even today.
Later, I gradually learned that Master Hongyi-Li Shutong, the pioneer of China's modern drama, was once a wandering wanderer in the world of poetry, calligraphy, painting, music and drama, and was a scholar who integrated Chinese and Western cultures from ancient times to the present. Finally, I followed the lonely shadow's empty door and spent twelve years in Wenzhou.
From then on, this man was deeply imprinted in my mind, and every time he appeared, there was a desolate and empty farewell as the background.
He gently closed the door with a "Farewell", and the world that once ravaged him has gone. Who did he say goodbye to? Lover? Is it a relative? Is it the world? Neither. He just sent himself away.
He did it. He walked to the other side without looking back or looking at himself. The world died, not him. (excerpt)
