The architecture of Zhang Jingjiang’s former residence is a typical Jiangnan Hongmen mansion style. The two door carvings in the hall are finely carved, all made of square bricks. The four words "Tolerance is great" above are from Lin Zexu's famous saying "The sea embraces hundreds of rivers, Tolerance is great, the wall stands thousands of feet long, and there is no desire to be strong". The four characters "Shi Shou Xi Ming" on the wall door are based on the allusion of Zhang Zai in the Song Dynasty who taught "East Ming Xi Ming" after abandoning his official position. The two lintels, "Tolerance is great" and "Shishou Ximing", were both written by Zhou Mengpo (also known as Zhou Qingyun, a modern industrialist collector) in Nanxun Town.

The former residence maintains the traditional Qing Dynasty ancient architectural style of three rooms and five rooms. Once you enter, there are one hall and five rooms. There is a sky opening between each room. Every time you enter the hall, you will go up one level, which is commonly known as step by step. Each entrance company has a straight fire lane for fire protection. The former residence reveals a luxurious, simple and profound legacy. The fire sealing wall is higher than the roof, the sloping roof is covered with small green tiles like dragon scales, and the eaves are covered with dripping tiles that facilitate drainage and prevent wind. The indoor buildings are like rows of palaces; the carvings are very exquisite, mainly based on opera and folk patterns, advocating a kind of simplicity and natural beauty, which can be said to be unique in Nanxun. It is worth mentioning that behind the front and rear gates there are uniquely conceived brick carvings with fine carvings.

One of the characters in Zhang Jingjiang’s former residence has the four words "Tolerance means greatness". It comes from Lin Zexu's poem "The sea accepts all rivers, tolerance is great, the wall stands tall, and no desire is strong". Another wrote: "Shishou Ximing" four words. It originated from the allusion that Zhang Zai in the Song Dynasty gave up his official position and taught apprentices with "Eastern Inscriptions and Western Inscriptions". The above-mentioned eight characters were all written by Zhou Mengpo (also known as Zhou Qingyun, one of the "Eight Bulls" of Nanxun, a modern industrialist and collector). The banner "Zhang Jingjiang's Former Residence" hangs above the door of Zhang Jingjiang's former residence, and a black lacquered gold plaque "Zunde Hall" inscribed by Zhang Jian of Nantong hangs in the main hall. On both sides is a couplet inscribed by Sun Yat-sen: "Three thousand guests were drunk with flowers in the hall, and frost chilled forty states with one sword." The couplet holding the pillars was written by Weng Tonghe, the teacher of Emperors Tongzhi and Guangxu: "In the world, the old home for hundreds of years is nothing more than the accumulation of virtue." The first good thing in the world is to study." The second and third halls display the couplet written by Zhang Jingjiang to Chen Lifu, "The iron shoulder carries the moral responsibility, the thorny article carries the article", as well as the genealogy, family development history and Zhang Jingjiang's life history.
