Blue-and-white porcelain, also known as white blue-and-white, is often referred to as blue-and-white, and is a treasure of China ceramic firing process. It is one of the mainstream varieties of China porcelain, belonging to underglaze colored porcelain. Blue-and-white porcelain is made of cobalt ore containing cobalt oxide as raw material, with decorative patterns painted on the ceramic blank and covered with a layer of transparent glaze, which is fired at one time by high temperature reducing flame.
Cobalt is blue after firing, which has the characteristics of strong coloring, bright hair color, high firing rate and stable color. Primitive blue-and-white porcelain appeared in Tang and Song Dynasties, and mature blue-and-white porcelain appeared in Hutian kiln in Jingdezhen in Yuan Dynasty. Blue and white became the mainstream of Ming porcelain. It reached its peak in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty.
Extended data
Mature blue and white porcelain appeared in Jingdezhen in the Yuan Dynasty. Because the Yuan blue-and-white porcelain tire adopts the binary formula of "porcelain stone+kaolin", the Al2O3 content in the tire is increased, the firing temperature is increased, and the deformation rate in the firing process is reduced. Therefore, the carcasses of most utensils are thick and full.
Derived varieties:
1, blue-and-white multicolor is a porcelain decoration technique with underglaze blue-and-white as the color and various colors on the glaze. The blue part of the pattern is first depicted with underglaze blue and white, then glazed and fired, then coated with underglaze pigment, and finally fired in the furnace.
It flourished in Jiajing and Wanli of Ming Dynasty and developed from Chenghua Doucai. However, it is obviously different from Chenghua Doucai, that is, it does not take blue and white as the main color, but only takes blue and white as the overall color of the picture, which is in the same position as red, yellow and green.
2. Peacock green glazed blue and white is also called "Peacock green blue and white". The manufacturing method is to draw a pattern on the blank, coat the pattern with transparent glaze, put it in a kiln for high temperature firing, then cover it with malachite green glaze and put it in the kiln for medium temperature firing. The spring bottle of peacock green glazed blue and white jade pot in Jingdezhen in Yuan Dynasty unearthed in Indonesia proves that peacock green glazed blue and white is the first in Jingdezhen kiln in Yuan Dynasty.
