"It is not enough to pay back a mountain. You have to read thousands of books to understand the spirit." Calligraphy is the real fruit after practicing hands (pen and ink practice) and mind (reading). Thus, it created a new book style of "Shang Yi" in the Song Dynasty.
2. Huang Tingjian advocates "rhyme wins" and emphasizes the influence of moral knowledge on calligraphy. He thinks you have too many books, so it's clean and tacky to write them.
Huang and Su have the same view, that is, profound knowledge and pen and ink skills are the foundation of calligraphy, while Huang has added a kind of moral cultivation, which can be understood as an open mind.
