Founder of Shangmei Middle School

Yan Xiaoxun (1883- 195 1), a famous philanthropist and educator, was born in Shangmei Town, Xinhua.

192 1 year (the tenth year of the Republic of China), when there was a severe drought, Yan Xiaoxun, who was "hungry and cold" in Xinhua County, donated 60 mu of paddy fields, which was the first Cier Hospital in the county and served as the dean. At that time, more than 100 orphans whose parents starved to death and whose age was over 10 were adopted. The extension teacher taught them to read and spread their skills, making them independent adults. By the eve of liberation, more than 300 orphans had been rescued and they were able to support themselves. 1932, seven orphans, including Zeng and Sun, were sent to Xiangshan Cier Hospital in Beiping (run by Premier Xiong Xiling of the Republic of China) for further study. After graduating from Peking University Law School, I went to Nanyang to work in education. Sun became an English teacher in a middle school.

In view of the fact that there were only four middle schools in Xinhua at that time, such as County Middle School (now Xinhua No.1 Middle School) and Qingfeng Agricultural School, the enrollment scale was limited, and thousands of primary school graduates asked to go to middle school. After the middle school enrollment, many left-behind teenagers cried. Yan Xiaoxun, who once graduated from Hunan Zhonglu Normal School, witnessed this situation and donated 280 mu of land and Yinyang 500 yuan as the start-up capital. He resolutely founded Hunan private Xinhua Shangmei junior high school as the principal in Qingshi Street. The enrollment in that year 1 17, 193 16 started in March. In addition, the whole family's land lease (2000 tons of land rent) was handed over to the Provincial Department of Education as the school property mortgage. In the second year, Peng Yizheng, the county magistrate of Xinhua County, designated Chongyang Temple as the site of Shangmei Middle School. The school building has been expanded year after year, with a deficit of nearly ten thousand yuan. He sold more than 65,438,000 mu of rice fields to pay off his debts. He served as the principal of Shangmei Middle School 18 years and never received salary from the school. Under the influence of his selfless dedication, Liang, Wu Xingzong, Chen Kenjun, Yan Xiaodi, etc. They are all voluntary teachers, and many faculty members donate money to build the school, which is a beautiful talk for a while.

During Yan Xiaoxun 18' s tenure as principal (1931-KLOC-0/949), Shangmei Middle School became a base for actively propagating the anti-Japanese war, the center of China * * * Production Party's underground organization activities, and the outpost for Xinhua to meet the liberation struggle.

In the second year after the outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1938), Shangmei Literature Research Association, headed by Shangmei Middle School English teacher Xiao Zhe (underground party member), founded Our Garden Weekly, and published articles by Hu Niankun, Zeng Zhaoren and other progressive students in Xinhua Daily from May to June of the same year. Selected Works of Wartime, co-edited by Chinese teachers Chu Yuan and Meng Shude (both underground party member), is a Chinese textbook actively promoting the war of resistance against Japan, with 72 selected works, including 9 selected works by Lu Xun. At that time, all those who actively advocated anti-Japanese, such as Li, Ba Jin, Guo Moruo, Yang Shuo, etc. Being chosen as an article for people to read, their determination to resist Japan arises spontaneously. Liu Xinfu, a student of Shangmei 10 class (underground in party member), vigorously developed the "People's Vanguard" (referred to as "China National Liberation Vanguard") in the school and actively engaged in anti-Japanese propaganda activities.

In the late 1930s and early 1940s, Su Jing (female), Zhang Zhuru (female), Li Hanwei (female) and Yan Ge 'nan (Yang Liyuan), who successively served as the first, second, third and fourth secretaries of Xinhua County Committee of China Underground Party, all organized and worked under the cover of teachers from Shangmei Middle School. When Zeng Guangji, the principal of the school, was personally arrested by Liao, secretary of the Kuomintang Hunan Party Department, who came to Xinhua to instruct the county magistrate, Yan Xiaoxun came to the rescue and assured his family that he was not a * * * production party. Allow him to stay in the strict house to "reflect". A year later, Yan Xiaoxun still asked Zeng to return to Mei Middle School as the principal.

On the eve of liberation, many progressive teachers and students of Shangmei Middle School, which has the tradition of patriotism and love for the people, actively participated in the liberation struggle. 1June, 949, when General Fang Dingying initiated the organization of Xinhua Self-help Branch of Hunan People's Self-help Association, he personally visited his old classmate Yan Xiaoxun in Xinhua Accelerated Middle School. On the invitation list of the inaugural meeting of the association, there is the name of Yan Xiaoxun, the principal of Shangmei Middle School. Qing Shilin, Hu Niankun, Yang Kailu, Yan and other students are the backbone of Xinhua Self-help Association. Among them, Wu Dayou, who was highly valued by Mr. Wen Yiduo in National Southwest Associated University, was the one who drafted the "Welcome to Liberation" for Xinhua.

"Destroying the family to promote learning, raising young people, and a heart of Dan can be worthy of the ghosts and gods of heaven and earth!" This is a prequel to the commemorative couplets inscribed by Zeng Zhancheng, a third-grade student, a retired teacher and a 90-year-old famous calligrapher of Shangmei Middle School. Yan Xiaoxun, a benevolent man, was highly summarized and truthfully evaluated.
