Once, his uncle went to his house to play and tested him with the books on the bookshelf. There was no answer he could not answer. His uncle was very surprised and praised him repeatedly. Even Su Shi praised him constantly after seeing his poems and essays, thinking that there had not been such good poems and essays in the world for a long time.
After he passed the Jinshi examination, he became an official. It went very smoothly at first, but after the emperor implemented the new system, someone framed him, and he was demoted to a remote place.
At this time, Huang Tingjian's relatives and friends were very worried about his future, but he himself didn't care too much. It seemed that the demotion had no impact on him, so he still suffered. Eat well, sleep soundly, and live like before.
Local scholars admired him and often asked him questions. Huang Tingjian would teach others everything he knew. As long as they were instructed by him, the articles he wrote would be better than the original ones.
Later Huang Tingjian offended others again, and others spoke ill of Huang Tingjian in front of the emperor. As a result, Huang Tingjian was demoted again, and even became more remote each time.
