"The Qin Pass will eventually belong to Chu, and the three thousand Yue Jia who lie down on fuel and taste the courage will swallow Wu." It means that during the Warring States Period, Qin destroyed the six kingdoms, but was eventually destroyed by Xiang Yu. During the Spring and Autumn Period, Wu To destroy the Yue Kingdom, Gou Jian endured hardships and sacrifices, and finally led 3,000 Yue soldiers to defeat the powerful Wu Kingdom with 100,000 soldiers. As long as you are determined, anything can be accomplished.
"Those who are determined will achieve their goals. Even if the cauldron sinks the boat, one hundred and two Qin Passes will eventually belong to Chu; people work hard, but God will not let them down; if they work hard and taste courage, three thousand Vietnamese soldiers can swallow up Wu." This couplet is one of the most famous poems in Qing Dynasty literature. Written by Pu Songling.
This is an inspirational couplet written by Pu Songling himself when he failed the imperial examinations many times and was in extreme despair. It was originally engraved on a copper ruler and later hung in the study room of Liaozhai. It was not written by Yan Mai.
The first couplet of this couplet uses the allusion of Xiang Yu's destruction of the cauldron and the defeat of the Qin soldiers, which shows that Xiang Yu's determination to fight to the end and never look back is required. The second line uses the allusion of Gou Jian, the king of Yue, who endured hardships while lying down on firewood and destroyed Wu Xueshi, expressing the need to learn from King Gou Jian of Yue's perseverance of hard work, self-motivation and determination.
