Li Pan was born in a scholarly family, and his grandfather Li Xiangyang was a juren during the apocalypse of the Ming Dynasty. His father Li Mao was a tribute worker in the Southern Ming Dynasty. Influenced by a good family education, Li Pan was gifted from an early age.
According to historical records, Li Pan read a quick glance and never forgets anything. He wrote an article and wrote a thousand words, often without changing a word. Unlike some weak scholars, Li Pan is tall and can eat. Clever as he is, he liked to play and didn't study hard when he was young. What are you playing? He especially likes to play with a kind of bird-eagle, which is almost obsessed.
After playing wildly for 28 years old, Li Pan settled down to study with his teacher. In order to show his determination to study hard, he killed all the eagles, and from then on, he concentrated on his studies. Eight years later, in the 29th year of Kangxi (1690), 36-year-old Li Pan took the senior high school entrance examination.
2. Take the exam while eating and win the championship.
Li Pan's experience in taking the imperial examination was very interesting. In the thirty-sixth year of Kangxi (1697), Li Pan went to Beijing to take the exam.
In ancient times, in order to prevent cheating in scientific research, candidates had to wait until all subjects had been tested before leaving the examination room. Many candidates enter with steamed bread and other food. Because Li Pan is tall and has a big appetite, he packed 36 steamed buns in a bag and walked into the examination room.
Why did you bring 36 steamed buns? Maybe it's for good luck, maybe it's a coincidence-this year is the thirty-sixth year of Kangxi, and Li Pan is just 36 years old.
Li Pan writes slowly, thinking and answering questions in the examination room. When he is hungry, he eats a few bites of steamed bread. Seeing that it was getting dark, other candidates handed in their papers and walked out of the examination room. Only Li Pan is still slowly answering the examination paper.
The examiner urged him several times, and Li Pan was a little worried. He begged the examiner to say, "What students have learned all their lives is at stake. Please don't rush me, let me finish it slowly. "
The examiner was moved by his words and gave him candles. After eating 36 steamed buns, Li Pan asked the examiner for some steamed buns. He didn't finish all the exam questions until midnight and handed in the paper.
Li Pan's request for steamed bread from the examiner in the examination room soon spread in Beijing and later reached the ears of Kangxi. Kangxi also found it interesting. He didn't blame him, but thought that Li Pan was a diligent and well-read person, which left a deep impression on him.
In the later entrance examination, Li Pan's "Chao Ce", with more than 2,000 words, was clear and unique, and won the appreciation of Kangxi. Li Pan was appointed as the first scholar in the first subject, that is, the top scholar, and was awarded the title of imperial academy.
After the news of winning the championship came out, Jiang, who was on the same list with him, made a poem and teased: "Look at Pengcheng County, whose name is Agtuk. The appearance is crimson, and the knife and pencil are like Xiao He. There are children under the tree, and the bugs are still outside. Generally difficult to learn, thirty-six cakes. "
Since then, Li Pan's reputation as a "top scholar" has spread.
3, for the official to be honest, the career is bumpy.
Li Pan is known as "the first person in China" because of his integrity. 1699, when Li Pan served as the examiner for the provincial examination in Shuntianfu, he insisted on fair selection of talents and was not afraid of powerful people, and selected a large number of talents for the imperial court. E Ertai, Shi Yizhi, Dunn and other famous ministers all came from his hands.
But in this way, we have offended some children who have fallen behind. They took the opportunity to slander Li Pan, saying that he abused power for personal gain and cheated in the exam. Emperor Kangxi wrote a letter and arranged for another examiner to re-examine the juren selected in the Li Pan exam, but none of them lost, clearing Li Pan's name. Kong, a dramatist who used to be an official in the imperial court, wrote a play "The Legend of Tian Tongbang" according to the rumors of graft and perverting the law circulating everywhere in Beijing at that time, and suddenly made a fuss. Finally, Kangxi was angered and Li Pan was exiled to Shenyang. It was not until three years later that he was rehabilitated and sent back to his hometown.
Later, Kangxi made a southern tour and wanted to use Li Pan. However, Li Pan, who experienced ups and downs, was disheartened by his official career, so he declined the kindness of the imperial court for an excuse and never became an official again.
After Li Pan returned to his hometown, he spent all day singing poems and having fun. His articles and calligraphy are well-known, including Accidental Collection and Ge Nan Wen Collection.
