Life of Sun Huaibin

Solving the past and melting the present to cast the soul of painting

——Mr. Sun Huaibin's artistic life

Mr. Sun Huaibin was born in Lingbi, Anhui in 1932. He studied under Qing Dao in his early years Mr. Wang Kuibi and Mr. Lu Fengzi, the disciples who entered the family, were taught and accepted by the clan, and the fire was passed down from generation to generation, and they were deeply respected by the Qing Taoists. His calligraphy studies focused on bronze inscriptions on stele and inscriptions, dating back to the Qin and Han dynasties, and then to the Jin and Tang dynasties. His paintings come from books, he is familiar with the "Six Methods", and he covers a wide range of subjects, including landscapes, flowers and birds, ancient books, and figures. He is perfect in both crafting and writing. He is especially fond of poetry and ancient literature, reads classics and studies history, and is committed to revitalizing Chinese studies. He ranked his artistic achievements as: first in calligraphy, second in painting, third in writing, and fourth in poetry. To sum up, Mr. Sun Huaibin is a knowledgeable calligrapher, painter, historian, esthetician and folk artist.

Mr. Sun Huaibin served as an art editor in the 1950s and produced many figure paintings at that time. At that time, he also created some meticulous flower-and-bird paintings with beautiful colors and elegant artistic conception. In 1961, he was transferred to the Lingbi County Cultural Center and since then he has opened up a creative path. He got rid of the illustration-style figure painting creation, looked at the society and faced life, and created "Watching Movies", "Mobile Book Box", "Shimodian New Wind", " Literary Qingqi" and other New Year pictures reflecting rural cultural life. In 1963, when the rural economy experienced a turning point in development, he created "Going to Market", which reflected rural life. The picture is full of pink willows and spring. Men, women and children on the road to the market, leading pigs and sheep, pushing carts with loads of agricultural and sideline products, carts full of baskets, and busy traffic, playing a symphony of great rural economic development. This period was the climax of his modern figure painting creation. During that period, his "Gathering Pictures" and "Ode to the Motherland" were published by Anhui People's Fine Arts Publishing House. In 1972, his "Flower and Bird Screen of Four Seasons" was published by Anhui People's Publishing House and was rated as the best published work. Mr. Sun Huaibin has a special liking for the simple and simple bronzes that best represent the spiritual temperament of the Chinese people. He tried to paint ancient bells and tripods, accompanied by exotic and fresh fruits, and inscribed with bronze inscriptions, which are full of ancient Chinese cultural atmosphere. . In 1976, his "Dragon and Tiger Statue·Chrysanthemum" was exhibited in Hong Kong for an exhibition organized by the State Council for Foreign Affairs and Culture. In 1990, his "Ding Nai Changchun" participated in the fifth national "Chinese Flower and Bird Painting Invitational Exhibition". Mr. Sun Huaibin's ancient paintings, whether they are Xia Ding, Shang Yi, or Qin Quan and Han Seals, all the utensils are rusty and mottled, ancient and thick, and they are all artifacts from three generations, which is admirable. Mr. Sun Huaibin's extensive painting skills and exquisite techniques are hard-won. He was diligent and self-motivated throughout his life, and learned from many teachers, learned from their strengths, burned ointment and turned to the sundial, worked tirelessly, and finally got married with great success. His flower and bird paintings are based on the Buddha of Chen Shu, but they are independent and stand on their own. His peony painter's method is based on non-explanation, but he does not stick to the method of creation. He deeply admired Liu Kuiling for his peacock paintings, but his style was completely different and independent. His erudite paintings were influenced by Kong Xuan and Kong Xiaoyu, and he changed Kong's lowercase style to gongbi. Zheng Naiquan, a contemporary gongbi painter who is famous for his paintings of bronzes, has different paths in his ancient paintings. Mr. Sun Huaibin is a versatile and independent painter with great creative potential. However, he was indifferent to fame and fortune and did not care about reputation or reputation. In order to inherit the precious national cultural heritage, he resolutely devoted himself to the excavation and rescue work of Zhong Kui's paintings on Lingbi, and he continued to do so for a long time. This is not a state that ordinary people can achieve.
