The panorama of calligraphy font types

According to the traditional classification, China calligraphy fonts can be divided into five categories, namely, running script, cursive script, official script, seal script and regular script.

1, run the script

It is a font between regular script and cursive script on the basis of regular script, which is produced to make up for the slow writing speed of regular script and the illegible cursive script.

2, cursive script

Formed in the Han dynasty, it evolved on the basis of official script, which is the beauty in the frenzy. Because cursive script is too simple and easy to be confused with each other, it can't replace official script, and it becomes the main font just like official script replaces seal script.

3. Official script

It is generally believed that it is developed from seal script, with wide and flat font, long horizontal painting and short vertical painting, and pays attention to "swallow tail of silkworm head" and "twists and turns".

4. seal script

It is the collective name of Oracle Bone Inscriptions, Da Zhuan and Xiao Zhuan, with strong pictograph. The most commonly used font of calligraphy seal is seal script. The font of seal script is round and the structure conforms to the meaning of six books, so Sun said in the Tang Dynasty, "Seal script is graceful and smooth".

5. Regular script

Regular script gradually evolved from official script, becoming more simplified and more horizontal and vertical. The book Ci Hai is interpreted as "square in shape and straight in brushwork, which can be used as a model".
