Wenxing Tower, also known as Wenfeng Tower, commonly known as Nanmen Tower, is located on the east side of the southern end of Nanpu Road, Ezhou City, Hubei Province.
Wenxing Tower was built in the 21st year of Jiajing reign of Ming Dynasty (1542). It was built by the county magistrate Chen Qian and the eunuch Zhu Zan to encourage students to study hard. In the seventh year of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1668), Xiong Deng, the county magistrate, saw that Wenxing Tower was gradually declining, so he rebuilt it in another location.
Wenxing Tower has octagonal and five floors, with a total height of 23.13 meters. It consists of three parts: the tower base, the tower body and the spire. The tower base is 2.25 meters high and 8 meters in diameter. The base is 7.5 meters long on a side and made of stone blocks. The tower is a green brick and wood cornice-style building. The tower is 19.08 meters tall and has a pointed roof. There are ten stone steps connecting each floor, allowing you to climb directly to the top of the tower. The top of the tower is 1.8 meters high. There are four doors and four windows on each floor of Wenxing Tower, which can be viewed from all directions. The word "Wen Feng" is engraved on the inlaid tablet at the main south door of the tower body, with simple and elegant calligraphy.
Renovated in 1988, Wenxing Pagoda is the only existing ancient pagoda in Ezhou and a municipal cultural relic protection unit.
