Cultural Accumulation in Nigou Village

Nigou Village, Puning City, which is famous for its overseas Chinese culture, is an ancient Ming village dominated by Zhang, Xu and Chen, with a total population of 1.8 million. Villagers of all surnames live in harmony, creating a civilization under the Hushan Mountain in the upper reaches of Lianjiang River with hard-working hands, and becoming a wonderful flower in the splendid Chaoshan cultural garden. Nowadays, in addition to education, old-age care and other facilities, Nigou Township also has a painting and calligraphy room, a pavilion for returning home, a memorial cemetery for martyrs and other places for spiritual and cultural activities, which are rare in ordinary villages. Nigou village has a profound cultural heritage, and Nigou lantern riddles and Nigou songs and dances are well-known at home and abroad. There are nearly 20 kinds of local works such as riddles and folk customs.

Schools are not just "rice shops"

The former site of "Same School" is an old ancestral temple. It is the place where Zhang Bofeng has been running a school for 40 years. Zhang Bofeng was born in the last years of Guangxu. He graduated from Weixin High School in his village at the age of 65,438+08. He has excellent academic performance and is highly valued by his elders. He stayed at school to teach. 1928, Zhang Bofeng moved to Thailand with his family and returned to China two years later. He founded the "Concurrent Literature Specialized School" in the village, personally taught literature classes and offered riddle classes. Zhang Bofeng also asked his eldest son Zhang Zhongyan to assist in school affairs. The father and son have been running a school for 40 years, and have trained a batch of outstanding talents, such as China famous painters Lai Shaoqi, Zhang Huayun, Mijiazhuang Xiao Sheng and Jaco, all of whom are early graduates of the school in the same period. Zhang Bofeng's posthumous works include Eruptive Poetry and A Mystery.

Nigou village has a civilized social fashion and is known as the hometown of culture. Promoting learning and cultivating talents has long been the knowledge of villagers. In the 1930s and 1940s, there were four complete primary schools in the village: mass, innovation, moral education and Michael. There are also primary schools such as civilians, Xinmin, Xinsheng, Luji, Youde and Cui Ying, Li Qing Literature Special Class and Battlefield Academy. It can be said that "the school is more than a rice shop"! What's more, students have been studying and understanding and embarked on the revolutionary road of resisting Japan and saving the country. 22 of them died for the revolution. Mass schools were founded by underground parties and revolutionary intellectuals and funded by overseas Chinese in Thailand. They are one of the strongholds of Puning's anti-Japanese and national salvation movement.

In Nigou, the primary and secondary schools we saw were all beautiful, and most of them were related to the word "overseas Chinese".

Garden reading club former site

There is a unique small building next to the painting and calligraphy room in Nigou Village, which is the "Oriental Villa" where Zhang Mingzhi, a scholar in the late Qing Dynasty, studied. During the Anti-Japanese War, a group of enthusiastic young people in the village formed a "garden reading club" here to read progressive books and carry out revolutionary activities such as anti-Japanese and national salvation propaganda.

The gate of the building faces south, and the words "Oriental Villa" are cast on the lintel. There are three small buildings facing east in the yard, which are two-story buildings, with a larger one in the middle and a platform about 1.5 meters high in front. On the front wall, there is an inscription from Liu Yuxi's humble room: "Thinking is a humble room", which is full of books. In front of the building is a small garden, and in the east is a 4-meter-square dry pool. The railing has been destroyed, but the charm of the past is still faintly visible. Zhang Mingzhi, the founder, went to Thailand to make a living, settled in catalpa and built this small building as a place for leisure and study. According to zhangjiapu's records, during Guangxu period, he was ordered to go to Henan for disaster relief. Because of his work, he was awarded the title of "Guangcha Ambassador" by the court and the plaque of "Rong En".

Throughout the ages, talented people have come forth in large numbers.

Nigou village has a large number of literati and talents from generation to generation. In the Qing Dynasty, there were nearly 20 tribute students and scholars, including Zhang Keyan, the branch of Tongzhi Gui You, Xu Xingrang, Xu Huisheng, the imperial examination officer of Qianlong Wuwu, and Zeng Sheng, the third son of Guangxu twenty-four years. Here, the academic spirit of several scholars is worth mentioning:

Xu Dao. After taking part in the children's test in Guangxu, he was sent to Japan to study and studied in the normal department of the museum of Hongwen College in Tokyo. After returning to China, he served as the principal of Puning Sandu Public High School, and later founded Wushi Town High School. In the late 1920s, he was suspected by the Kuomintang authorities for covering the revolutionary actions of students in Puning No.2 Middle School, and died while living in Shantou. Lu Dan, the former residence, has more than 300 books/KLOC-0, and his legacy includes essays, poems, couplets and other manuscripts. ("Puning County Records" has a biography)

The second son of Zhang Keyan, Zhang Shengdian's "Ba Yuan". Being born in a city is an example to teach students. He is knowledgeable and rigorous in teaching. Another scripture manuscript, Adjacent Anecdotes, is kept in Nigou Painting and Calligraphy Room. There are about 200,000 words in the book, all written vertically with superfine wolf hair, which is extremely neat and beautiful. Each word is only 1/3. At first glance, there seems to be a linear arrangement on the page.
