The battle of Linfen, which is famous in history, sacrificed thousands of good sons and daughters of the Party and the people. It was their blood that dyed the land of Linfen red and liberated the suffering people of Linfen. In order to make the people of Linfen remember the great achievements of the martyrs from generation to generation, the Linfen Municipal People's Government built the Martyrs Cemetery in the north of Yao Temple Palace in the south of the city in 1958, where the remains of martyrs were centrally placed.
Since then, after years of repair and reconstruction, planting trees and flowers, it has now become a garden with scattered pavilions and halls, pine and cypress flowers fragrant with the wind, beautiful scenery and solemn elegance. The cemetery is located north to south, and the towering monument to the people's heroes stands in the center.
Marshal Zhu De's handwritten inscription "The revolutionary martyrs are immortal" is engraved on the front of the monument; The most glorious inscription on the left side to die for the benefit of the people is the handwriting of Marshal Xu Xiangqian, the commander-in-chief of Linfen's tough battle. On the right is the inscription of Comrade Wang Shiying, the governor of Shanxi Province in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, who bravely crowned the three armies, covered the air for life, resisted the Japanese aggressors, annihilated stubborn enemies, and forged victory with blood; Fenliu gathers beautiful scenery, pays close attention to it, strives for peace and freedom, and heroes benefit the society; On the back side, the inscription of Comrade Tao Lujia, secretary of the provincial party committee, brought a new sky for the martyr's ambition. In addition, there are antique gatehouses, rest pavilions, Linfen attack exhibition hall, Revolutionary Heroes Memorial Hall, Linfen Construction Achievements exhibition hall, cinerary hall, cloisters, rockeries, winding paths and fountains. These buildings are beautifully designed and well laid out. Around the building, holly is the hedge, pine and cypress are the scenery, and the crowds are competing for glory and glory, and the colors are colorful and set each other off. Two rows of cedar trees around the Monument to the People's Heroes were planted by all members of the Shanxi Provincial Gu Committee in 1987; Forty cedar trees in front of the Martyrs Cemetery were planted by Linfen Brigade of China People's Liberation Army to commemorate the 4th anniversary of Linfen's liberation. These pines and cypresses planted in memory of the revolutionary martyrs, under the hard cultivation of the cemetery workers, grow sturdily and are green in all seasons, enriching the landscape of the cemetery and adding vitality to the cemetery.
On the Little Square behind the monument, there are five brick domed cemeteries for storing the remains of martyrs. There is a stone tablet in front of the tomb, engraved with the name of the martyr; On both sides of the tomb gate are carved couplets written by famous calligraphers in the provincial capital. From west to east, they are: martyrs wearing golden armor have experienced the wind and rain in Sichuan; Yu Qingsong in the cemetery locks the clouds in the distant mountains. Send the spirit of the times, the red star shines on heaven and earth; Songs praising heroic achievements move the cemetery. Heroes and heroes pioneered the tough battle; Guanghua will always lie in the cow city. Pine and cypress stand upright in the wind and frost; Fragrant flowers burst into the spirit of the martyrs. Liang Huoshan, a high martyr, has a rich mountain and a beautiful show; Tang Yu's history is long, and the history of state industry is new. These couplets are solemn, quaint, vigorous and exciting, which fully expresses Linfen people's incomparable admiration and nostalgia for the revolutionary martyrs. The cemetery is open all the year round, and visitors come to mourn the martyrs every day.
Every year, on May 17th, the anniversary of the liberation of Tomb-Sweeping Day and Linfen, various organs, factories, mines, schools and troops come here in droves to lay wreaths to revolutionary martyrs, visit Linfen's exhibition on tackling key problems and receive revolutionary traditional education. There are also some families of local or foreign martyrs who made a special trip here to sweep graves and mourn their loved ones. It has become a good classroom for educating young people about revolutionary tradition and revolutionary heroism.
