Chen Yaozi (970- 1034) was born in Langzhong County, Langzhou (now Langzhong City, Sichuan Province). An official and calligrapher in the Northern Song Dynasty, the third son of Jian Zuo doctor Chen Shenghua. After three years in Xianping, he won the top prize. At that time, the policy of valuing literature over martial arts prevailed in Song Dynasty, and Chen Yaozi was the top scholar in the examination.
