Ouyang Xun’s best inscriptions

Ouyang Xun’s best stele calligraphy: "Huadu Temple Stele".

The Tang Dynasty was the most glorious period in the history of Chinese feudal society, and the development of calligraphy art entered a new realm. The calligraphy of the early Tang Dynasty included the "Four Masters of Regular Script in the Early Tang Dynasty" including Ouyang Xun, Yu Shinan, Chu Suiliang and Xue Ji, as well as Lu Jianzhi, Sun Guoting and others. They each had their own styles and opened up a new pattern of "Tang calligraphy".

Ouyang Xun is famous for his regular script. The strokes of his regular script are sharp and straight, the characters are thin, and the structure is strict, like a "line of spears and halberds". The upper part of the knot is wide and relaxed, while the lower part is tight, creating a low but high center of gravity, which is both "stable" and "dangerous". Ouyang Xun's "writing power is strong and dangerous". Mi Fu of the Song Dynasty called it "dangerous". People in the Qing Dynasty said that he dared to use a "dangerous pen" and always had one "danger".
