Zhuge Liang’s nickname Wolong, what does Wolong mean?

Wolong, also known as Coiling Dragon. Zhuge Liang, with his talent in the world, settled in Langya thatched cottage without meeting his master, so he named himself "Wolong". The general meaning is: once the dragon takes advantage of the situation and wins, Wolong will become Xianglong.

In 197 AD (the second year of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty), Zhuge Liang, who was only seventeen years old, came to Longzhong and lived in a thatched cottage in the mountains. He often went to the fields to do some farm work, and spent more time reading and studying the classics and history.

He has great ambitions. Although he lives in seclusion in the mountains, he still pays close attention to the development of the national situation and the changes in the military forces of various factions, and considers the plan to govern the world. He often interacted with some local celebrities, talked about the past and the present, commented on characters, and exchanged views on the current situation.

Zhuge Liang has a quick mind, sharp political vision, and his understanding of problems is often better than ordinary people. Therefore, he is respectfully called "Mr. Wolong" and compares him to the dragon among people lurking in Longzhong.

Extended information:

Historical records indicate that in Longzhong at that time, the people who knew Zhuge Liang’s talents the most were his two division commanders: Pang Degong and Sima Decao. Through long-term contact and understanding, they realized that Zhuge Liang was a hero who could assess the situation and strategize, but he had not yet emerged.

Therefore, Pang Degong gave Zhuge Liang the nickname "Wolong" (also called Pang Tong "Fengchu"), and Sima Decao called him a hero who knew current affairs. Based on this, some people believe that Zhuge Liang's title of "Wolong" was his own, and it was of the nature of character evaluation during the Eastern Han Dynasty, and was a praise of Zhuge Liang's talent and virtue.
