Ankang Martyrs Cemetery was built to commemorate the revolutionary martyrs who died in the Battle of Niutiling. The battle of Niutiling took place on1July 23rd, 949. It is the most intense and largest mountain battle that the two divisions of PLA 19 Army liberated Ankang and cooperated with the First Field Army to liberate Longdong in Guanzhong. The main positions in Niutiling were repeatedly contested for 19 times, and the People's Liberation Army finally repelled the attacks of the 3rd Army, 27th Army, 69th Army of Hu Zongnan Kuomintang and a mechanized artillery regiment, which contained the 98th Army along the Han River. The next day, the new city and the old city Xiguan were occupied, and the enemy arrived at the gate of Ankang. Quit voluntarily on the 26th. In this battle, more than 2500 people were wiped out by the whole army, and our army suffered casualties 1300 people. Meng, deputy head of the regiment, died heroically in the fierce battle of Daniuling. 1950 Ankang county people's government decided to establish a martyrs cemetery in the south of the county. In the same year 65438+February 65438+May, Ankang Commissioner's Office held a grand memorial service in the gymnasium.
Since the establishment of the cemetery, with the support of governments at all levels, China People's Liberation Army troops and the broad masses of the people, it has been restored seven times. 1984 construction of fences, gates, roads, pavilions, martyrs' monuments, Shan Xin Pavilion (mainly to commemorate the martyrs who fought against floods) and other buildings. The gates and pavilions of the cemetery face south and are antique reinforced concrete buildings. On both sides of the gatehouse, a gilded couplet inscribed by Xu Shanlin, former vice governor of Shaanxi Province, and Gong Baocheng, vice chairman of the National Calligraphers' Association, reads: "Commander Hanshui praised the great achievements of the martyrs, and Jinzhou called on the younger generation to show their great ambitions and comfort their souls." Above the gatehouse hangs a gilded horizontal plaque inscribed "Forever Dan Xin" by Wu Sanda, vice chairman of Shaanxi Calligraphers Association. Not far from the gate stands a martyr's monument with a height of 1949 meters (to commemorate the year when the battle of Niutiling started), and the top of the monument is inlaid with a dazzling red five-pointed star. General Fu Xianhui, the former commander of the 55th Division of the 19 Army and one of the commanders of Niutiling Campaign, wrote eight characters for the monument: "The revolutionary martyrs are immortal". Inscriptions are engraved under the monument, recording the great achievements of the martyrs.
