Where is Wanshou Pagoda, the academy in Yanjin?

The Wanshou Pagoda of Yen Jin University is a national key cultural relic protection unit.

The Academy, located in the north street of Yanjin County, was founded in Tianbao period of Tang Dynasty (724-755). During the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, the monk was appointed as the secretary, and Xuantong was promoted for six years (1426), and the monk was rebuilt in Dingyuan. There are three locks at the main entrance and three locks at the second entrance. The main hall is the Hall of Great Heroes, and there are three rooms dedicated to Buddha Sakyamuni. On the right in front of the Ursa Major Hall is a stone carving with the ever-burning lamp written by Zhao Meng, a calligrapher of the Yuan Dynasty. The two wings of the main hall are the Temple of Heaven on the left, the Water and Soil Hall on the right, and the Water and Soil Hall behind the main hall (Wanli changed to Datu Pavilion), each with three halls. Now only the main hall is left.

At the entrance of the University Hall, stands an ancient pagoda with six corners and seven floors. This is the Wanshou Tower. According to the Records of Yanjin County, Wanshou Pagoda was built in the Tianbao period of Tang Dynasty and destroyed in the 28th year of Jiajing of Ming Dynasty (1549). The following year, Li Yuanchun, the magistrate of a county, suggested that people rebuild it, and the two floors were closed for lack of financial resources. In the third year of Qin Long (1569), Chen Yi, the magistrate of a county, raised money to continue his studies, but he did not finish his studies. In the 11th year of Wanli (1583), Hao Yili, a magistrate of a county, continued to build materials, but it was not completed due to Hao's funeral. It was not until the 13th year of Wanli (1585) that Zhang Guangyu, the magistrate of a county, donated money to order craftsmen to close the roof and cast a bronze vase (tower gourd) weighing more than 1,000 Jin at the top of the tower, which was considered to be completed. * * * From groundbreaking to completion, it took thirty-six years to go through the fifteenth magistrate of san huang. Now it is a provincial cultural relics protection unit.

Wanshou Pagoda is 28.4 meters high and the perimeter of the bottom floor is 23. 1 meter. The height and diameter of each layer decrease slightly from bottom to top, but there is no obvious conical feeling. The architectural style of this tower has a strong color. There are 0 cornices carved from blue bricks at the top of each floor, six walls under the eaves and a dome-shaped arch on each side. The cornice extends out of the wall about two feet wide and is cleverly designed. The pattern carved on the cornice is divided into three layers, each layer is about 30 cm thick (6-8 layers of bricks). The lower floor is a brick-carved bucket arch, the middle floor is a brick-floor imitation rafter and cornice, and the upper floor is a brick-floor lotus petal, which is distinct, firm and beautiful, and is an excellent craft in ancient times. Except for the one-meter-high stone strips laid on the tower foundation, the materials of the tower are all blue bricks. The tower structure is divided into three layers: inside and outside. The inner layer is a conical hollow cylinder; The outer layer is an inner circle and an outer hexagon; The middle layer is a half-solid and half-imaginary spiral staircase and channel. A large wooden pillar was placed in the center of the tower, and the top was changed into a copper brake and a steeple gourd. The inner wall of each floor is embedded with pagoda inscriptions, and most of the poems written are the impressions of gentlemen climbing the pagoda in the Ming Dynasty.

Speaking of steeple gourd, there is also a story about a southerner stealing treasure. Legend has it that the copper vase at the top of the tower has gradually changed and gained aura after years of nourishment and the shining of the essence of the sun and the moon. Every time before the heavy rain comes, the tower gourd will automatically split in half, and a child will jump out of it and run around the gourd several times. When the rain comes, it will automatically get in, and the tower gourd will automatically close again and restore to its original state. After a long time, it spread brightly. A barbarian came to steal the treasure, but the tower was high and the bottle was heavy. Despite several attempts, he failed. So the barbarian hired a foreign wizard to cast spells around the tower. It is said that before the heavy rain comes, throw a hundred sesame cakes at the children at the top of the tower, and the gourd will automatically fall. Before a heavy rain, Nanmanzi and foreign wizards bought a lot of baked wheat cakes and prepared to throw them at the top of the tower. When they threw out ninety-nine cakes, they were caught out of the plot and drove away. But since then, the child has never come out, only the tower gourd is still sitting on the spire, overlooking the vicissitudes and changes of Jin Dadi.

20 19 10 7, Wanshou pagoda of Yanjin Xueyuan Temple was selected as the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
