Pei Xiu has public calligraphy. The Monument to the Buddhist Master at Guifeng written by him looks like Liu style, but its style is more charming and vigorous than Liu's. The rubbings handed down from generation to generation of his calligraphy include the Monument of Dinghui Zen Master, which is now preserved in Caotang Temple, Huxian County, Shaanxi Province. Mi Fei once commented: "Pei Xiu's intention of writing a monument is really interesting but not ugly."

According to the Records of Jinshan Temple and other related materials, Fahai is the son of Pei Xiu, whose common name is Pei Toutuo. When he was a teenager, he was sent to Buddhism by his father Pei Xiu and named Fahai.

Pei Gong Pavilion was built to commemorate Pei Xiu, a famous figure in Tang Dynasty. Pei Xiu, a native of Jiyuan County, Henan Province, is knowledgeable, good at poetry and painting, and good at calligraphy. In Tang Xianzong, he served as assistant minister of the Ministry of War, in charge of the history of salt and iron, and was later promoted to assistant minister and prime minister of Zhongshu. He played an important role in reforming the accumulated disadvantages of grain transportation and stopping the tyranny of the buffer region. In his later years, he was demoted to be our envoy in southern Beijing, and devoted himself to studying Buddhist classics. He often passed through Yiyang and stayed for ten and a half months, reading and chanting by the river. Later, people simply built a pavilion of Pei Gong, which is a castle in one, between the green hills and white clouds, for Pei Gong to study and stay. Pei Gong was too happy to leave. Lang Lang's recitation and chanting attracted Xian Bailu to stop and listen.
