Chen Zui was originally named Chen Guozhao and was born in Yangjiang, Guangdong Province in 1942. He graduated from Yangjiang No.1 Middle School in 196, Shanghai Theatre Academy in 1964 and graduate department, China Academy of Art, with a master's degree in 1981. He is currently a researcher and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Fine Arts. In 1992, he was rated as an outstanding expert with outstanding contributions by the Central Ministry of Culture, and in 1993, he enjoyed a special allowance from the State Council.
