In the past twenty years, a group of young and middle-aged calligraphy groups with great strength have grown in the profound cultural soil of Pengxi, forming a nationally famous "Pengxi Calligraphy Phenomenon" in the calligraphy field. The works of "Pengxi Calligraphy Group" have also been frequently exhibited and won honors in art halls at all levels in China. Pengxi's colorful mass calligraphy activities have contributed to the construction of "three civilizations". In May 2000, the Ministry of Culture of China awarded Pengxi County the title of "Hometown of Folk Art (Calligraphy) in China".
The Historical Origin and Inheritance of Pengxi Calligraphy Art
First, Pengxi folk calligraphy style is extremely prosperous, and there are many ink marks of historical celebrities.
(1) In the Tang Dynasty, Du Fu set foot in Pengxi, leaving behind the famous prose "The Traveler's Pavilion in the Tang Dynasty" and poems inscribed with calligraphy.
(2) In the Song Dynasty, Wang Hongshan wrote calligraphy and wrote down the inscription of Baofan Temple, which still exists today.
(3) Huang Hui, a calligrapher with the same fame as Dong Qichang in the Ming Dynasty, wrote an inscription "Zidong Zoulu" in Pengxi, praising Pengxi's prosperous culture and simple folk customs.
(4) In the Qing Dynasty, there were nine palaces and eighteen temples in Pengxi, involving Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism and other cultures, leaving many plaques and couplets. Pengxi County Lingsheng inscribed "Guest House"; Pengxi county magistrate Duan Xiuzuo's "Tiger Roar Map"; Zhang Chuanshan, a native of Pengxi, was a genius of "poetry and calligraphy" in Qing Dynasty. His calligraphy is solemn, rough and simple. Zhang Yao and Wang Meng are both good at calligraphy and painting, and their works are included in Yizhou Calligraphy and Painting Record.
(5) During the Republic of China, Gao Feng Mountain (in Pengxi), a famous Taoist mountain in central Sichuan, had many plaques, such as Weibei, and ancient seals and running scripts. Yu Youren, Linsen, He, Ju Zheng, Feng Zikai, Zhang Lan, Dai, Chen Cheng, Chen, Zhang Qun, Chen Lifu, Wang, Wang, Feng Yuxiang, Deng Xihou, Bai Chongxi, Liu Xiang, Liu Wenhui and Tian Songyao all left ink here.
(6) Contemporary famous painters Huang and Sha Menghai also left precious Mo Bao in Pengxi.
(7) In the late 1970s, Ceng Laide, a famous calligrapher in Pengxi, founded the first township-level calligraphy association in China in Sanfeng Town of Pengxi, and sent young calligraphy lovers out to study and further their studies as planned. A group of old calligraphers in the county, that is, Wei Bei or Fa Tie in the Tang and Song Dynasties, guided young people: "Learning books should be based on ancient laws and the right path should be the most important." In the mid-1980s, volunteers obsessed with the exploration of Pengxi calligraphy realized the limitations of individual learning and the importance of the influence of group wisdom, so they organized and established Pengxi Youth Calligraphy Society and Pengxi County Calligraphy Association. "Pengxi Calligraphy Group" was born. "Calligraphy Group" has always maintained a positive academic atmosphere and a strong learning atmosphere. Not only adhere to personal creative practice, but also often hold various calligraphy pen meetings, exhibitions, manuscript reading parties, calligraphy art salons for artistic exchanges, and often invite famous scholars to give lectures and travel abroad to study.
