Hu Xueyan (1823- 1885), whose real name is Hu, was born in Jixi, Huizhou, Anhui, and moved to Hangzhou, Zhejiang at the age of 13. China is a famous red-crowned businessman, politician and representative of Huizhou merchants in modern times. When Zuo Xizheng conquered Agubai, he presided over the affairs of Shanghai Mining Bureau for him, borrowed foreign money in Shanghai for five times, collected military salaries, ordered arms and did intelligence work. He often reports important news from Shanghai and foreign circles to the left.
Hu Xueyan, a calligrapher with red top, is very popular. When he was in second place, he liked to wear a yellow jacket. In the 9th year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty (1883), the capital turnover failed due to local bureaucrats competing for withdrawals and extortion, and their industries were forced to sell at low prices, and their assets were halved. Finally, Hu Xueyan was dismissed, his property was confiscated and he died of depression.
Hu Xueyan's calligraphy obviously inherited Wei Bei's style, with some running script, elastic strokes, reasonable structure and elegant appearance. Although it is a regular script, it has a strong sense of movement and accurate strokes. It is a rare high-quality regular script and can be used as the best model for scholars.
Hu Xueyan's calligraphy is really good, with big characters, strength, relief, momentum and personality. Not many titles are great calligraphers. At that time, the information was not smooth and the overall level was not high, which had an impact, but it did not keep pace with the times. It studies tradition hard, and when the public appreciates it, it is of course criticized, which is nothing wrong.
