Song lyrics
Outside the long pavilion, beside the ancient road, the green grass reaches the sky
The evening breeze blows the willow flute The sound is muted, the setting sun is outside the mountain
At the end of the sky, at the corner of the earth, close friends are half scattered
A ladle of turbid wine has exhausted the remaining joy, don’t dream coldly tonight
Outside the long pavilion, beside the ancient road, the green grass reaches the sky
The evening breeze blows the willow flute and the sunset is outside the mountain
Thousands of love, a glass of wine, the sound of the flute reminds me
Ask you when you are going to come here, don’t linger when you come
The grass is blue, the water is green and wavy, how is Nanpu?
Life is rarely about joyful gatherings, but there are many partings (dense)
Thousands of love, a glass of wine, the sound of the flute prompts you
Ask you when you are going to leave, and don’t linger when you come
"Farewell" is written by Li Shutong The song was written in 1915 and its melody is taken from the American song "Dreaming of Home and Mother" composed by John Pound Otway. In 1936, EMI released a recording of a solo performed by Long Xun, a primary school student at the Beijing Normal University [2]. This version was later included in the album "Centennial Classic 1: The Beauty of Autumn Water" published by China Records in 2004.
