She is a sick monk. She doesn't covet the comfort of famous temples, does not pursue fame in name only, and willingly becomes an ordinary or even poor monk. She didn't make an earth-shattering feat. She just did some ordinary kindness in a dilapidated temple with unswerving kindness and persistent patriotism, but she won the praise of the people in Shiliba Village.
In this ordinary and ordinary, she wrote an extraordinary life in which a monk promoted Buddhism and pursued the principles of universal life.

I have always liked the heavy traditional culture, and over time I have become a frequent visitor to the ancient temple in my hometown. On an accidental tour, I came to the reclining Buddha Temple in Meihua Village, Wugong County. I saw a monk in his forties, dressed in coarse cassock, harvesting the rape planted in the temple, so tired that he was sweating. Seeing someone visiting, she stopped, folded her hands, shouted "Amitabha" and received us politely. I was deeply impressed by her sincere and kind attitude and charitable behavior. The laity told me that she was the master of the temple, Shi Huiyun.
Buddhist temples have always been presided over by eminent monks, nuns are rare, and young monks are even rarer. This dignified and handsome young man in front of him is gentle, thin and slightly tired. Why did he abandon the world of mortals in his prime and cut his hair for Nepal? Why did she come to this dilapidated temple? Why did she become the owner of the temple? What inspired her to worship Buddha and chant Buddhist scripture in the sound of morning bells and drums and carry forward traditional culture for twenty-four years? With these questions and great doubts and admiration, I walked into the reclining Buddha Temple many times and approached Master Shi Huiyun's bumpy life.
An unfortunate and bumpy childhood.
Master Shi Huiyun, common name Hu, real name Huiyun, 1970, was born in an ordinary peasant family in Guanzhong Plain. At the age of eight, my father died young, and my mother brought up three brothers and three sisters. She is the youngest daughter in the family. She is smart, studious, extremely smart and never forgets anything. She is regarded as the apple of her parents' eye, cute and spoiled, but naughty.
1998, she was rated as Sun Shan by a few points. By chance, she read the book How to Learn Buddhism given to her brother and classmates by a monk in Wutai Mountain, and suddenly became interested in Buddhism. This book inspired her to realize that Buddhism is not superstition, but a key to enlightenment. When she first heard about Buddhism, she was sincere. She changed the bad habit of eating with her mouth open and reaching for clothes, and consciously standardized her words and deeds according to Buddhism. She is busy with her career during the day and insists on doing work and meditation at night to cultivate her mind. As soon as she is free, she keeps her house in order, as if she were a different person. At the age of 20, she converted to Bordet Ji in Huangpu Village, Wugong County and became a Buddhist disciple. Huiyun has a special liking for Buddhism, devotes herself to practice, reads classics thoroughly, buys a tape recorder and studies classics hard, and becomes a very devout Buddhist.
She is a kind and filial girl. When she was a child, she often asked her mother: Where did I come from? Where do people go after death? When I was older, I often thought, where did my father go after he died? So I often ask the heaven and man flying in the sky in my dreams. Have you seen my father? But heaven and man shook his head. After seeing her father's death, my mother was unhappy all day and often went to Lacrimosa. He bought beads for his mother, took her to the famous mountains to worship, and went to Famen Temple to worship Buddha. From then on, a long-lost smile appeared on my mother's face. My mother, Gu, is a well-educated lady. Seeing that my daughter has changed so much, I think that Buddhism is boundless, and I often say, "chanting Buddha will change me into an old woman;" I am old now, otherwise I would have become a monk. " Buddhism believes that there are three kinds of filial piety, one is to provide parents with all material needs; Second, the ancestors were glorious and had a successful career; Third, becoming a monk and practicing Buddhism, crossing parents in the six divisions of the wheel of karma for eternal life and death.
Smart, sensitive, often inspired by foresight, and often effective. When she visited her uncle in Ningxia, it was very dry and there was no rain in March. This afternoon, she drifted off to sleep and saw Manjusri Bodhisattva riding in the sky chasing the Dragon King for rain. Half an hour later, it really began to rain cats and dogs. She is a Buddhist and doesn't believe in Taoism, but she dreamed that the Eight Immortals crossed the ocean to show their magical power. A few days later, the film "Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea" was staged in Murakami. She met a monk in Shaolin for nearly a hundred years and said, "You are the daughter of a great general in the Song Dynasty. When you led the troops to fight, you killed countless people and the blood flowed into the river. " What you did wrong in your last life will take several lifetimes to pay for it. This life is destined to become a monk. At this time, she woke up from a dream and believed that life should be a monk.
In addition, she was weak and sick since childhood, and she couldn't hide the meat, onion and garlic, and she couldn't hide the blood. She threw up as soon as she heard it, so she had to eat vegetarian food. After she was born, nothing went well at home, the fruit trees in the hospital failed to bear fruit, chickens and ducks at home did not lay eggs, pigs and sheep did not grow, and her father died young. Everyone thinks she deserves it, and it's all her fault. After chanting Buddha and doing work, she insisted on meditation and painstaking cultivation, and miraculously recovered from years of serious stomach problems.
Give your life for your mother and resolutely become a monk.
After entering the society, 1967 she worked hard. She held an embroidery and cutting training class in her hometown, did small business with relatives in Xi 'an, the provincial capital, and made small achievements in her career. In life, she is very disgusted with the impetuous, intrigue and fame-seeking phenomena in the world. In the face of the muddled world, she forgot her deep affection for her children, refused marriage proposals from relatives and friends many times, and dreamed of being alone.
During this period, after years of Buddhist chanting and Zen meditation, her thoughts have undergone essential changes. In order to save her family from suffering, to make her mother a monk, and to promote Buddhism, at the age of 24, she resolutely fled into an empty door and left the world of mortals.
It is incredible to say that after becoming a monk, everything went smoothly in her family, everything went well, her family business flourished, and the days became more and more prosperous, which further strengthened her belief in sticking to an empty net. This is another story, not to mention it for the time being.
1In August, 993, Hu Huiyun, full of the desire to become a monk, heard that Master Shang Yin was going to practice in Shanxi next month, so he went to Pushou Temple in Wutai Mountain with his teacher. At that time, her residence was tense, and she was introduced to Jifu Temple by Master Rurui. Jifu Temple is a Dojo where many Nigerians gather for retreat, and it is also a famous temple where Yang Wulang Yande, a good general of the Great Song Dynasty, became a monk. The first time Hui Yun met the monk here, she was like a long-lost friend. It was really thousands of miles away! She is like a bird that comes out of the cage, and it is like a poor man who gets gold, a sick man gets medical treatment, a wanderer goes home, regrets the time that passed before, greedily tastes the nectar of Buddhism, and desperately recites classic treasures. All the customs doubts are solved.
Here, she participated in a six-month study tour with masters from Shanghai, India and next month, and further strengthened her belief in becoming a monk through the inspiration of famous teachers. 1On the eighth day of March, 994, Hu Huiyun came to Pushou Temple in Wutai Mountain and was presided over by Master Shangyin next month. The young woman cut off her hair and faded her red makeup, and officially shaved her hair and became a nun. The master named her Huiyun.
Begging for Buddha, traveling around.
Due to mature karma, Huiyun memorized several Mahayana classics and successfully entered the Pushou Temple Discipline Institute and Chongqing Buddhist College, which monks at home and abroad dreamed of. Zhong Ni Law School of Wutai Mountain is located in Pushou Temple of Wutai Mountain and was founded by two masters, Ru Rui and Miao Yin. Chongqing Buddhist College is located in Huayan Temple, the first temple in East Sichuan, with Master Wei Xian and Master Heart as the principal and vice presidents. Both institutions are well-known schools of luminary Buddhist College, which integrates practice Dojo and Buddhism education. It aims to improve the quality of Nigerians and cultivate Buddhist research and management talents who love the country, religion and deeds.
"A circle of red walls separates the outside world; The temple gate is slightly closed and specialized. " Huiyun starts from a small school (Shamini). She has morning classes at 3 am and evening classes at 7 pm, twice a day. She doesn't eat after noon and turns off the lights after 10: 30 in the evening. Take precepts as teachers and open the door of wisdom; Morning bells and drums, chanting and chanting Buddha, studying and studying, persevere. For Shamini, he should not only learn Buddhist knowledge such as Buddhist history, world history, university, golden mean, calligraphy, English, Sanskrit, but also learn basic courses such as Chinese and mathematics. Huiyun was strong since she was a child and never gave up. She often continues to study by candlelight after others have a rest. She often only takes a rest for three or four hours every day, and she is always among the best in every exam. After becoming a monk, she never received financial support from her family. She makes a living by selling incense for temples on Sundays and earning a few yuan of hard money. Both her studies were due to overwork and serious overdraft. Her weak constitution forced her to drop out of school and lost the opportunity for further study. The master said, this is life, you have to recognize it, you can't go against it. That is, in the two highest institutions of Buddhism, she was taught by famous teachers and monks, laying a solid foundation of Buddhism and laying a firm belief in kindness and universality.
After her body basically recovered, she was recommended by Master Shangyin in the next menstrual period, and was lucky enough to come to Anyunju Temple in August 1995 to follow Master Shangjixiaxiang, vice president of Shaanxi Buddhist Association, director of Buddhist Life Promotion Committee and abbot of Yunju Temple in West Wutai. As the personal secretary of the mage, he greeted, sent things, opened his eyes, participated in Buddhist practice and made good friends; I worked hard for three years as an editor of Buddhism and Life Promotion, and put Buddhist theory into practice, accumulating rich management experience.
1May, 999, she was awarded the Great Ring by Master Tong Xian in Huilong Temple, Guizhou, and became a bhikshuni. She dresses up as a bodhisattva and holds Zhang Xi. She has a ring. (Jiedie is a certificate issued by Buddhist officials and missionaries to the monks and nuns who have been ordained to prove their qualifications. ) When monks and nuns have official positions, they gain legal status. They will not feel embarrassed to stay in this temple or travel around the world, and they can be exempted from tax, labor, military service and other obligations and protected by the government. Only by abstinence can we better carry forward the teachings of the Buddha, purify our hearts, increase our compassion and wisdom, improve our knowledge and ideological quality, resist the infiltration and invasion of cults, inherit the fine tradition of patriotism and love for religion, fully implement the party's religious policy, learn Buddhist culture and serve the construction of a harmonious society.
In the following years, Master Shi Huiyun traveled all over the country with a precept in his hand. He has visited and studied in Lingshan Temple in Fujian, Kongtong Mountain in Gansu, Huayan Temple in Chongqing, Wutai Mountain, Jiuhua Mountain, Emei Mountain, Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang and other famous temples to practice and learn from Buddhism. Master Huiyun, out of sincere love for Buddhist culture, regarded Buddhism as a scholar, studied hard, became fascinated with Buddhism and entered the realm of Buddhism. In the interview, talking about today's achievements, Master Huiyun misses the teaching he got in India and following his teachers and visiting domestic masters next month. She said with emotion: "It was the teachers who pointed out the way for me to explore Buddhism and seek truth, strengthened my belief in Buddhism and wisdom, and strengthened my courage to be kind and patriotic. I will never forget them! "
Leave the famous temple and preside over the poor temple.
There is a reclining Buddha temple in Meihua Village, southeast township of Wugong County. It is said that it was built in the Tang Dynasty and is located in the southwest corner of the village. There are five Buddhist temples and five Buddhist temples in the temple, and five Buddhist temples in the east and west. Bells and drums are ringing, ancient trees are towering, incense is strong, and generations are dependent on each other. It is said that the plum blossoms in the temple are famous far and near, and the temple is famous for plum blossoms. People nearby also call the reclining Buddha Temple Meihua Temple, so Meihua Village is named after the temple.
After vicissitudes of life, the stars have moved. Later, due to the wars of past dynasties, the temple was abandoned. In the early days of the People's Republic of China, it was forcibly demolished on the grounds of breaking feudal superstitions, leaving only two ridges and one pillar.
After the reform and opening up, the party's religious policy has been further implemented, conforming to history and greatly pleasing the people. In 2003, the believers in Shiliba village cheered and raised funds to rebuild the reclining Buddha Temple in the northwest corner of the village, and built the Daxiong Hall and Liao Fangzhai House. In the following three years, Buddhist temples were empty, chaotic, neglected in management and existed in name only, which worried believers from all directions. In 2006, believers in the neighborhood heard for a long time that Master Huiyun was knowledgeable and proficient in Taoism, and asked him to preside over the Sleeping Buddha Temple three times. In ancient times, Liu visited the thatched cottage, which moved Zhuge Liang and made great achievements. Nowadays, on the one hand, the extremely pious actions of the lay people have influenced Master Huiyun, on the other hand, Master Huiyun also hates the racket in the downtown area, and her eyesight drops sharply due to work fatigue, and her body is extremely weak. After careful consideration, she firmly left a famous ancient temple with elegant and comfortable environment and superior conditions and came to the reclining Buddha Temple in Meihua Village.
The reclining Buddha Temple was built on an abandoned brick and tile factory. The site is uneven, overgrown with weeds, and there is no fence outside. It's a mess. The Buddhist temple is empty and desolate. Due to the loss of traditional culture, at that time, the people here were not ancient, the morality was getting lower and lower, and the village atmosphere was getting lower and lower; Various contradictions emerge in an endless stream, including fighting and killing; The prevalence of bad style, regardless of unhealthy tendencies, is even more common, which seriously restricts the construction of a harmonious society and affects the local economic development.
I once imagined the hardships of rural temples, but she never imagined that the conditions of the reclining Buddha Temple were so poor and the external environment was so severe. At this time, she hesitated and hesitated, and once backed out. However, there is no turning arrow before opening the bow. Master Huiyun, who is naturally competitive, full of challenging spirit and never gives up, is determined to bravely shoulder the heavy responsibility of rebuilding temples, revitalizing Buddhism, patriotism and religious beliefs, spreading spiritual civilization and benefiting one side with his hard-working wisdom and weak shoulders.
After determining the goal and direction, Master Huiyun straightened his back and rolled up his sleeves, leading his followers to embark on a difficult and bumpy missionary road.
Make a makeover and rebuild the Dojo
Monastery is a place for monks to carry forward Buddhism and Buddhist culture, and it is a link for monks to serve the society and unite Buddhists. When she first entered the reclining Buddha Temple, Master Huiyun first led four lay people to level the land and fill the deep pit through hardships. The four sides raised funds to enclose the wall, build the temple gate, add two monk rooms, lay floor tiles for the temple, ask skilled craftsmen to rebuild the golden body for the Buddha (reclining Buddha), and held a grand opening ceremony. Then, she led the temple management committee, formulated and improved the rules and regulations, took the initiative to invite the relevant government departments to supervise and guide, and went through the certification procedures of "religious activity places" in time. No sweat, no gain. Soon the temple was completely new and had a good venue for activities.
In the temple construction, Master Huiyun took the lead in labor and was busy all day. On weekdays, I insist on paying equal attention to agriculture and Zen, and grow wheat, sweet potatoes, rape and vegetables in the temple to support myself; Flowers and trees have been planted in the temple to beautify the environment and strive to raise the temple with the temple. But the master lived in poverty, never squandered a penny, ate two meals a day, insisted on being a vegetarian, and did not eat after noon, which did not increase the social burden. The lofty spiritual realm and personality charm of the master's single-minded kindness conquered the masses in all directions. For a time, the temple became famous and more and more people participated in practice.
Pass on the scriptures and praise them, and purify the soul.
Religious culture is the key to purify the soul, can open people's wisdom and happiness, and is the lubricant to promote social harmony! Master Hui Yun believes that Buddhist culture is profound and profound. Buddhism is not only a belief, but also a culture, which is in the same strain as China traditional culture and should be carried forward. Master Huiyun, who converted to Buddhism in his prime, is a new generation of insight. She is devout, diligent in meditation, and constantly pursues the true meaning of Buddhism. She followed the trend, kept pace with the times, promoted justice everywhere, never forgot her social responsibilities, turned the lecture venue into a Dojo to promote Buddhism and traditional culture, cooperated with the construction of national spiritual civilization, and saved the loss of people's spiritual civilization. After serving as the host of the temple, the visibility of the reclining Buddha Temple became higher and higher, and more and more people converted to learn Buddhism, affecting several surrounding towns and villages, with hundreds of people. Most of the lay people who often attend Buddhist scriptures are left-behind elderly people, who are older and have a low education level. With his superb management level and organizational ability, Master Huiyun combines the promotion of Buddhist culture with the inheritance of China traditional culture in addition to his morning and evening classes, teaching, learning Buddhism and taking the lead in practice. He gives lectures regularly in the first and fifteenth days of junior high school, giving priority to civic moral quality education, integrating eight honors and eight disgraces into the lecture content, and often explaining them to people who enter the temple. The Disciples' Rules class is held irregularly, leading believers to release them irregularly, advocating environmental protection and incense burning in monasteries, and putting an end to environmental pollution. Through the WeChat circle of friends, guide believers to learn Buddhism, be filial to their parents at home, and go out to worship heaven. Encourage Christians to love their country and their hometown, actively participate in economic construction, get rich through hard work, actively integrate into a harmonious society, and participate in spiritual civilization construction.
