Four tips for writing Xiaozhuan well:
1. First the center and then the left and right. Symmetry and balance are the characteristics of seal characters. For seal characters with a central vertical line, the middle vertical stroke or the strokes in the middle part should be written first. After the middle is positioned, other symmetrical strokes should be written.
2. First write the outer part and then the inner part. For strokes with a word frame, you should generally write the strokes of the outer frame, and then write the part inside the frame. This can control the size of the seal character body and avoid overall inconsistency.
3. Write the main stroke first and then the deputy stroke. For characters with main strokes and curves in seal characters, it is better to write the main stroke first and then the deputy stroke.
4. Write the sub-stroke first and then the main stroke. Among seal characters, some characters with main strokes and curvatures that play a supporting role should be written first and then the main stroke, so as to better grasp the center.
Supplement:
Xiaozhuan, after Qin Shihuang unified the six kingdoms (221 BC), he implemented the policy of "writing with the same text and carriages with the same track" and unifying weights and measures, and was under the responsibility of Prime Minister Li Si , based on the large seal script originally used by the Qin Dynasty, it was simplified and a unified Chinese character writing form was created. It was popular from the Qin Dynasty to the end of the Western Han Dynasty (about 8 AD), and was gradually replaced by official script.
However, because of its beautiful font and quite ancient charm, it has always been favored by calligraphers. And because its strokes are complex, its form is ancient, and twists and turns can be added at will, seals were carved in seal script, especially official seals that required anti-counterfeiting, until the fall of the feudal dynasty and the emergence of new anti-counterfeiting technology in modern times.
