1, the pen is different
The regular script pen is mainly centered, and the running script is used on all fronts. We can compare Yan Zhenqing's regular script with Wang Xizhi's running script, and we can see that they use different pens. Yan Zhenqing's regular script lines are vigorous and powerful, with a strong three-dimensional sense; Wang Xizhi's running script is both a center and a winger, which is very beautiful. Sometimes when writing running script, we even use diagonal lines to achieve special effects.
2, the speed is different
Regular script is slow to write, but fast to write. Regarding the writing speed, Su Dongpo once said: "True as standing, walking as walking, grass as walking." It is really regular script, official script or seal script. Writing is slow, such as standing and thinking, and running script is elegant, such as walking. When it comes to cursive writing, of course, it's walking or even running.
3. Different shapes of lines
Regular script is dominated by straight lines, while running script is dominated by curves. Calligraphy is the art of lines. The lines of regular script are dignified and elegant, and the lines of running script are elegant and chic, which are completely different styles, and of course they present two different line forms. Regular script is generally used in formal places, which reflects the practicality of calligraphy, so its lines must be regular and the morphological changes should not be too much. Running script is more about the artistry of calligraphy, and that change is its mission.
4. The stroke order is different
Regular script requires a higher level, and running script is mainly written smoothly. In order to have a unified and standardized writing, some people created the order of strokes. In regular script, the problem is not big, and one stroke does not reflect the speed, but it is different in running script or cursive script. Different stroke order will seriously affect the speed and effect of calligraphy, which can be understood by people with a little experience in calligraphy training.
The difference between running script and cursive script
1, font structure: cursive script is characterized by simple structure and continuous strokes. "Big grass" and "small grass" are symmetrical. Because the grass is pure grass, it is difficult to identify, and the characters are formed by strokes, occasionally disconnected, but the blood vessels are constantly changing, and the font changes greatly, which is generally difficult for experts to identify.
2. In terms of brushwork: cursive brushwork is more complicated and sicker. Running script is relatively easy, and its edge is reflected in the glyph, which is different from cursive script.
3. Composition: cursive composition in one go, with a general style. Running script is like a hermit, neat and tidy, but there is no lack of aura.
4. Practicality and artistry: the running script is both practical and artistic; Comparatively speaking, cursive script is highly artistic, but its practicality is relatively insufficient.
