introduction to Boya
Boya was a doctor in the state of Jin during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. His original place was the capital of Chu (now Jingzhou, Hubei). Boya was a famous pianist at that time, who was good at playing the lyre and had superb skills. He is not only an expert at playing the piano, but also a composer, and is respected as a "piano fairy". In Xunzi's exhortation to learn, it was said that "Bo Ya played the piano while Liu Ma Yang Wan played it", which shows his superb piano playing skills.
Origin
The Original Taste of Lu's Spring and Autumn Annals tells the story that Boya Guqin met a bosom friend, and Zhong Zi understood that the melody of the piano was in the mountains and flowing water. "Qin Cao" records: Boya failed to learn Qin for three years, and his teacher took him to Penglai Mountain in the East China Sea to listen to the sound of surging sea water and the plaintive cries of birds, so he wrote "Shui Xian Cao" with feelings. Qin Qu Gao Shan, Running Water and Shui Xian Cao are legendary works of Boya.
Introduction to allusions
During the Spring and Autumn Period, there was a man named Boya, and Mr. Cheng Lian studied guqin. At that time, he mastered all kinds of playing skills, but the teacher felt that when he played, he often didn't understand deeply. He simply played the notes, which lacked a little charm and could not arouse the audience's * * *. The teacher wanted to train him to be a real artist. One day, Mr. Cheng Lian said to Boya, "My teacher, Fang Zichun, lives in the East China Sea. He can teach people how to cultivate people's interest. I'll take you there and let him tell you about it, which will greatly improve your artistic level. " So the master and the apprentice prepared dry food and set out by boat. After arriving at Penglai Mountain in the East China Sea, Mr. Cheng Lian said to Boya, "You stay here and practice the piano, and I'll find the master." Say and rock the boat away gradually. Ten days later, Mr. Cheng Lian hasn't come back yet. Boya waited anxiously on the island, tuning the piano every day and looking around. He faced the vast sea and listened to the surging waves. Looking at the mountains from afar, it is lush and unpredictable, and from time to time there is the sound of birds chirping and flying. These interesting and strange scenes made him feel relaxed and dreamy, and felt that his taste was much higher. Boya had a creative passion and wanted to compose his feelings into music, so he set up a piano, poured his passion into the strings, and wrote a song "Mountains and Flowing Water" in one go. Not long after, Mr. Cheng Lian rocked back, listened to his sincere performance and said happily, "You are already the best pianist in the world, so go home!" Boya suddenly realized that the sound of the waves and the sound of birds are the best teachers. Since then, Boya has accumulated life and artistic experience and become a master of playing the piano all over the world.
Anecdotes and allusions
Boya's "second wife"
The ancients often compared the relationship between husband and wife with harps, so they called the remarriage of their wives "second wife".
Boya is good at playing the piano. His wife appreciates his piano skills and often asks Yu Boya to play it for her. Later, Boya's wife was seriously ill, and Boya asked a doctor to cook medicine and serve carefully, but it never worked. Boya is often anxious about this, so he has no mood to play the piano. The wife's illness is getting worse every day, but one day, the wife suddenly feels much better physically and mentally, so she asks her husband to play the piano for her. Boya hurried to pick up the piano and tune it, and played it clanking, so that his sick wife could get joy and comfort from the wonderful piano sound. Regardless of his fatigue, he played one song after another. When he was playing artistically, he suddenly "snapped" and the string broke in two. Just then, the wife stopped moaning. Boya dropped the puller and hurried to the bed to see that his wife had died. Boya wept bitterly for a while, and then called on his family to take care of the affairs. Never play the piano again. A year later, a relative told Boya about a woman from other places. Because of the deep affection between Yu Boya and his wife, he didn't intend to marry again, but he could not bear the persuasion of everyone, so he reluctantly agreed to go to the woman's house first and then decide. Because Boya has a good personality and a good family, the woman fell in love at first sight. But she put forward a condition, to listen to Yu Boya's guqin with her own ears, and then engage. Boya also took a fancy to the woman, although he still missed his old wife, but he thought again: people can't come back from death, so he went home to get the piano that had been put aside for more than a year, removed the broken string that he hadn't been trying to pick up, continued a new string and played it in front of everyone. Melodious and beautiful melodies, such as mountains and flowing water for a while, such as blue sky and flying clouds for a while, are really superb and Yue Xian-like. Everyone listened like a fool, and it took a long time to wake up after the piano stopped. Then there was a burst of applause, and even the prude couldn't help slapping. I agreed to this marriage at the moment. This story soon spread among the people, and later people compared remarriage after the death of their wives to "second wife".
The story of Boya meeting his bosom friend
The story of "Mountain running water meeting his bosom friend" has been passed down through the ages, so the word "bosom friend" was recited. It is reported that one year, Boya was sent to Chu by the orders of the King of Jin. On August 15th, he arrived at Hanyang River mouth by boat. In the storm, anchored at the foot of a small mountain. In the evening, the wind and waves gradually subsided, and the clouds came out and the scenery was very charming. Looking at the bright moon in the sky, Boya Qin was so excited that he took out the piano he had brought with him and played it wholeheartedly. He played one song after another, and just as he was completely absorbed in the beautiful sound of the piano, he suddenly saw a man standing motionless on the shore. Boya was taken aback, and his men tried hard, and with a bang, one of the strings was broken. Boya was wondering why the people on the shore came, when she heard the man loudly say to him, "Sir, don't be suspicious. I'm a woodcutter. I came home late. When I came here, I heard you playing the piano, and I felt the piano was wonderful. I couldn't help standing here and listening." Boya looked at it carefully by moonlight, and there was a load of dry wood beside the man. It really was a firewood man. Boya thought, how can a woodcutter who firewood understand my piano? So he asked, "Since you know the sound of the piano, please tell me what tune I am playing?" After listening to Boya's question, the woodcutter smiled and replied, "Sir, what you just played was the score of Confucius praising his disciple Yan Hui. Unfortunately, when you played the fourth sentence, the strings were broken." The woodcutter's answer was exactly right, and Bo Ya couldn't help but be overjoyed and invited him aboard to discuss it in detail. When the woodcutter saw the piano played by Boya, he said, "This is heptachord! Legend has it that it was made in Fu Xishi. " Then he told the story of heptachord. After listening to the woodcutter's remarks, Boya couldn't help secretly admiring. Then Boya played several songs for the woodcutter, asking him to identify the meaning. When he played the grand piano, the woodcutter said, "This piano expresses the majestic momentum of the mountain." When the sound of the piano became fresh and smooth, the woodcutter said, "The sound of the piano played after this expresses endless running water." Boya couldn't help but be pleasantly surprised. No one could understand what he expressed with the sound of the piano in the past, but the woodcutter in front of him actually heard it clearly. Unexpectedly, under this wild ridge, I met my long-lost bosom friend, so he asked the woodcutter's name was Zhong Ziqi and drank with him. The more they talked about it, the more speculative they became. After a brief encounter, they became sworn brothers. Make an appointment to meet here in the Mid-Autumn Festival next year. And Zhong Ziqi said goodbye in tears in the Mid-Autumn Festival the following year. Boya came to Hanyang River mouth as promised, but he waited and waited, but Zhong Ziqi didn't come for the appointment, so he played the piano to summon the bosom friend, but after a long time, no one came. The next day, Boya asked an old man about the whereabouts of Zhong Ziqi. The old man told him that Zhong Ziqi had died of illness. Before he died, he left his last words, saying that he would build the tomb by the river, and when he met on August 15th, he would listen to Yu Boya's piano. After listening to the old man's words, Boya was very sad. He came to Zhong Ziqi's grave and played the ancient song "Mountain Flowing Water" sadly. After a snap, he broke the strings and, with a sigh, smashed his beloved heptachord on the bluestone. He said sadly, my only bosom friend is dead. Who can I play this piano for? "
The friendship between the two" bosom friends "touched future generations, and people built an guqintai where they met. Until modern times, people often used "bosom friends" to describe the friendship between friends.
Guqin Site
There are two disputes at Boya Guqin Site: one is Boya Qintai (also called Guqintai) on the lakeside of Yuehu Lake in Hanyang District, Wuhan, and the other is Tiaokou in Tiaoguan Town, Shishou City. Hanyang Guqintai was built in Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty, destroyed by artillery fire in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period, and rebuilt after liberation. The Diaoguan Ancient Tune Pavilion was built in the Song Dynasty, but it was destroyed in the Republic of China due to disrepair, and it has never been restored. Guqintai was built in the Northern Song Dynasty, and it was destroyed many times in previous dynasties. Most of the existing buildings were rebuilt after 1949. The newly-built Guqintai is small in scale and exquisite in layout. The main buildings are courtyards, gardens, flower beds, tea rooms and distinct levels.
when entering the gate, the main building is a hall with a half-eaves and a hilltop-resting style, with three rooms in width, cloisters around it, brick and wood frame houses with glazed tiles covering the top, and beautiful colorful paintings. A plaque under the eaves reads "high mountains and flowing water". "The main building is a single eaves resting on the top of the mountain, with a mansion-style hall in front, and a square stone platform of white marble in front of the hall, which is said to be the place where Boya plays the piano." The word "Qintai" was handed down by Mi Fei, a famous calligrapher in the Northern Song Dynasty. There are inscriptions on the stele gallery and the forehead, such as "Inscribed Stone House", "Poem on Qintai" and "Mountain Flowing Water", all written by famous artists. The wall is also inlaid with a continuous relief, "Bo Ya Xie Zhiyin", which is vivid and impressive. The whole building complex is exquisite and elegant, retaining the style of the ancient buildings of that year, and it is one of the key cultural relics protection units in Hubei Province and Wuhan City.
