Yu Minzhong's Calligraphy Achievements

Yu Minzhong was a famous scholar in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty, with profound knowledge and elegant poems. He wrote most of his works about imperial edicts, decrees, biographies, poems, and normalization of affairs. Therefore, he also has quite high artistic achievements in calligraphy. Due to the preference of Emperor Kangxi and Emperor Qianlong and their strong advocacy, the calligraphy of Zhao Mengfu and Dong Qichang became authentic in the early Qing Dynasty. In Qing Dynasty, there were many calligraphers who studied under Zhao Mengfu and Dong Qichang, and there were more calligraphers in high positions. Yu Minzhong is no exception. Like Emperor Qianlong, he mainly studied Zhao Mengfu's book style. Yu Minzhong's brushwork is rough, rich and mellow, grand and quaint, and his ambition is peaceful. The pen and ink are quaint, and the boundless meaning overflows between Chu and ink, which does not stain the coquetry of the pavilions in the early Qing Dynasty.
