Wushan literature refers to the literary activities from Kamakura to Muromachi (1192-1573) led by monks from five temples in Kyoto and Kamakura. One Mountain and One Ning (1247-1317),No. One Mountain andNo. One Ning, was a monk of Linji Sect in Yuan Dynasty, with a common surname of Hu, a native of Linhai, Taizhou, and was the ancestor of Japanese Zen literature. He is known as the "One Mountain School" in Japanese legal system, and has made important contributions to Japanese Zen, Song studies, literature and calligraphy. He is known as the ancestor of Japanese "Five Mountains Literature", the "overseas grass sage" and the main disseminator of Song studies, which has restarted and frequently exchanged Chinese and Japanese folk cultures in Kamakura era and promoted peace between the two countries.
