Yang Guanbei's Role Career

1926, Guangzhou national government sent troops to the northern expedition, took charge of the northern expedition with the National Revolutionary Army, conquered Shanghai, and served as the head of the former enemy headquarters of the East Route Army. After the National Government made Nanjing its capital, it engaged in industry, helped Shanghai Mingshidu, took over as the general manager of Dada Shipping Company operated by Nantong, and later served as a Shanghai senator for many years. 1948, he was elected as a legislator. 1949 moved to Taiwan Province province with the Legislative Yuan, and continued to be a legislator, and served as the chairman of the Taiwan Province Shipping Association. In addition, he also served as the chairman of Fuxing Shipping Company and Xiangyi Shipping Company. He was the leader of the shipping industry at that time and the man of the year.

Guan Bei began to believe in Buddhism at the age of 50, became a devout dharma-protecting layman, and served as the permanent executive director of the gathering organization to attract young intellectuals to learn Buddhism. Yang believed in Buddhism at first because of his heart disease and his recovery from meditation, but this is only one of the reasons. His true belief in Buddhism is due to the accumulation and tempering of his long-term experience and his epiphany on life. Therefore, since he came into contact with Buddhism, he has been absorbed in reading the Bible almost every afternoon. In his later years, he said, "Since I started studying Buddhism at the age of 50, there have been more than 20 winters and summers. Although I am still a toddler, I do have some learning experience. " His understanding is not the analysis and research of knowledge by ordinary scholars today, but a profound understanding. Once, at a banquet hosted by Convergence magazine for many young scholars-associate professors with master's degrees or above-he pointed out that Buddhist classics did not let us increase our knowledge, but let us gain practical benefits. He said, for example, the word "Guan Yu" at the beginning of the Heart Sutra can be regarded as the name of the "Guanyin" bodhisattva, but it is actually more than that. Then he suddenly grasped the arm of an economist and said, "That's it, that's self-nature; Seeing yourself is seeing your own place! " Just a few simple words shocked the hearts of all scholars. From this we can know Yang Jushi's accomplishments in Buddhism.

Around 1959, Zhou Xuande, the founder of Huiju Organization, began to promote the organization of Buddhist societies in colleges and universities. At that time, it was a very sensitive thing to organize clubs in schools. Yang Jushi explained the situation to the relevant departments and broke through all kinds of obstacles by virtue of his position and connections in the central party and government. 1960 On April 8th, the first Buddhist research society in colleges and universities-"Dawn Society" was established in the National Taiwan Province Provincial University. In the next few years, Buddhist associations in colleges and universities all over the country were established like mushrooms after rain, and later reached more than 80. 197 1 year, Yang Jushi established the "Yang Guanbei Scholarship for Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism" in Huiju organization, and donated100000 yuan every year to Huiju. He once said to Zhou Xuande, the founder of Huiju Academy, "If we know nothing about Chinese studies, then we can't study Buddhism at all. This is a basic problem. So I advocate advocating Confucianism; Those who want to learn Buddhism must first understand Confucianism. Only by understanding Confucianism can we go deep into Buddhism and learn the lessons of Buddhism. " This scholarship has been awarded for more than 20 years and has inspired and benefited thousands of outstanding young people.

Yang Guanbei died at the age of 81 on 1 August, 9771. The scholarship he established is still awarded every year with the continuous donation of his philosopher Yang Linju.
