This poem was written in the third year of Kaicheng (838). Bai Juyi was in Luoyang at that time and served as the prince's young master (that is, the prince's mentor).
"Mengde" is Liu Yuxi's character. Liu Yuxi (772-842), a native of Luoyang, was the same age as Bai Juyi. He was Bai Juyi's close friend in his later years. It is said that there was "Yuan Bai" before him and "Liu Bai" after him. Bai Juyi highly praised Liu Yuxi's poems and called him a "poetry hero". When Liu Yuxi passed away at the age of seventy-one, Bai Juyi once wrote "Two Poems of Crying and Dreaming of Liu Shangshu". The poem said: "Bai and Liu are equally famous all over the world. They have been together for a hundred years. They are both poor and sick, and they have retired from leisure. They will die and face the old man all his life." "
When Bai Juyi wrote this poem, Liu Yuxi was also in Luoyang, serving as the prince's guest branch. At that time, both of them were serving as sinecures. The title of the poem means: Mengde and I bought wine and had a leisurely drink, and agreed on a date to meet in the future.
Explanation of the sentence
When you are young, you don’t worry about your livelihood. Who will be stingy about drinking money when you are old?
Young and fashionable and don’t worry about your livelihood, who will be stingy about it when you are old? Drink money? The first couplet expresses the emotion directly. From "young age" to "old age", it is a review of life, containing a sense of pathos about life experience. The sentence "young" expresses the childishness and heroism of youth; the sentence "old queen" reveals the vicissitudes of life and the warmth and warmth of the world.
***We bought ten thousand gold for a bucket, and we looked at each other for seventy years and three years
We bought expensive wine together, raised our glasses and drank; we looked at each other, You and I are only three years away from turning seventy. Both Bai and Liu have experienced ups and downs, and they are both wild and understanding people. In the first sentence, we can see the pride of the gathering of poet friends; the second sentence turns to frustration, with a desolate and painful meaning in the heart. Bai and Liu were both born in AD 772, and were both sixty-seven years old at this time, so it was called "seventy-three years old". When the two of them "looked at each other", what did they see? First of all, the appearance, with gray hair and wrinkles. As the saying goes, "Seventy years are rare in life." Youth is hard to retain, but our days are numbered. How can this not make people feel emotional? Therefore, behind "looking at each other" actually contains complex emotions about the ups and downs of life and the ruthlessness of time. "Shiqian" means ten thousand coins, which is used to describe the preciousness of wine. "Dou", in ancient times, wine was measured in terms of Sheng Dou.
When we are leisurely and elegant, we are poor in classics and history, and when we are drunk, we listen to clear chants that are better than orchestral music
While drinking leisurely, we quote verses from classics and history to fulfill our drinking orders; when we are drunk, we recite poems, which are better than music Over that orchestral music. This couplet specifically describes the "leisure drinking" situation mentioned in the poem's title, which is very consistent with the poet's identity and situation. Because he is a literati, he has elegance in his leisure; because he is old, he has a calm and relaxed style in his leisure. It should be said that this is another realm of life, the joy and great satisfaction of the spiritual world. The "drunk" here seems to be drunk but not really drunk. Rather than being drunk on wine, it is better to say that I am drunk on my heart. Ordinary silk and bamboo can be pleasant to the ears, but they cannot be like a close friend, who can be in harmony with each other and gain emotional comfort and joy. "Ya Ling", elegant drinking order. "Poor" means exhaustion. This statement is widely cited. "Qingyin" refers to chanting poems. Enjoy yourself
Waiting for the Juhuang family to mature, Mr. *** will be drunk and intoxicated.
When the chrysanthemums turn yellow in late autumn and the home-brewed wine is ripe, you and I will get drunk again and enjoy the bliss. The last couplet writes "About the later period", which leads the present gathering to the future and pushes friendship and poetry to its peak. "Home brewing", home-brewed wine. Compared with "selling wine", it goes to another level, making people feel more friendly and mellow. Therefore, although it is written about wine, it is actually about Taoism.
Commentary
Bai Juyi spent most of his later years in Luoyang, the eastern capital, living his "reclusive" life. His poems during this period were also mainly "leisure poems" . This poem is representative of it.
Two old friends with similar temperaments and interests, entertained each other with poetry and wine, put all the unpleasant things in their previous lives behind, and enjoyed the rest of their old life. Pure leisurely and elegant feelings. To be detached is like Tao Yuanming, but to be comfortable is better than that. The whole poem is concise and rich in meaning, light in tone and profound in emotion. The whole poem uses Fu style but is not flat and dull, showing his superb artistic skills.
After Liu Yuxi read this poem, he responded to it with "The happy days visit each other with foolishness and drink wine, and they chat with each other in seven words to answer questions". The poem goes: "The young man once drank under the banner of drunkenness, and his peers in yellow clothes The chin is also yellow. I'm looking for an official position. I'm depressed and white-haired. I'm happy with the ancient things. It's better to live alone in the deserted courtyard. I can hear the cicadas in the cold.
