However, just at the critical moment when we are about to learn from the scriptures, two respected Ananda Ye Jia challenged the Tang Priest and demanded his reward. Tang priest is poor and poor. Where did he get the money? As a result, he took a pile of wordless scriptures.
If the ancient Buddha didn't know the cause and effect, he sent the white bear to seize the scriptures without words with great power. Tang Priest's trip was a waste of time.
The Tang Priest cried angrily on the spot, saying that this was a paradise in the west, and how could monsters cheat him? The Monkey King was clever, and immediately understood the cause and effect, and guessed the ghost of Ananda Ye Jia.
Several people angrily told Buddha that the Monkey King challenged him and stated his reasons. As a result, the Buddha said a word, which is really puzzling.
You can't take it lightly, and you can't go home empty-handed. In the past, someone came to learn the scriptures, and the monk went down the mountain to recite the scriptures to ensure the safety of the living in his family. The dead man turned over and only got three buckets and three liters of rice gold from him. I still think it's too little. Now that you have come to get them empty-handed, you have given them a blank copy.
Bottom line: handed down from scratch, future generations will starve to death.
Who are the descendants mentioned here? The author thinks it is a monk in the three treasures of Buddhism, Buddhism.
The Buddha himself demanded benefits. What can Tang Priest do? I can only give the man-eating Zijin Bowl to the venerable Ananda Ye Jia, which is the only way to successfully obtain the Sutra.
Isn't Buddhism supposed to universalize all beings? Why do you need money? Is this driving the bad atmosphere of Buddhism?
Of course, The Journey to the West is just a novel, and he may be suspected of poking fun at Buddhism. But in fact, Wu Cheng'en's writing is not groundless. This is based on facts.
It is true that there are profound reasons why Buddhism cannot be spread lightly. And not only Buddhism, but also Taoism has a similar saying.
For example, a thousand dollars is not passed on, and a million dollars is not ungrateful. I would rather starve to death in the streets than treat Tao as human feelings.
Next, we will understand the meaning of Buddhism from both secular and Buddhist aspects.
First of all, from a secular point of view.
All beings can be compared to a great river and lake. Jianghu people attach great importance to skills and inheritance, and even small artists refuse to spread skills easily.
There are three reasons.
As the saying goes, church disciples starved to death. Inheriting this kind of thing is related to your job. If outsiders are cheap, there will be no food at home.
Some inheritance is related to reputation, and once passed on to people with ulterior motives, it may ruin the reputation of the industry.
After experiencing twists and turns, suffering and cost, we will know the importance of inheritance and know how to cherish it.
It turns out that only Hinayana Buddhism was circulated in China before the Tang Priest learned the scriptures. If you can't live in the world, you can't save ghosts, you can only ask yourself to be free. Mahayana Buddhism can make up for this shortcoming.
But the Buddha said, because all beings in the middle earth are ignorant, it is enough to send you wordless scriptures.
What does this sentence mean?
The moral significance of Mahayana Buddhism lies in universal devotion to all beings, which conflicts with human selfishness and the concept of monarch and minister. If transmitted lightly, it may cause a series of negative effects.
For example, after the death of King Li Shimin of the Tang Dynasty, Tai Shicheng and Fu Yi were asked to elect eminent monks and establish Buddhist services. Fu Yi once said: Buddhism is the law of the western regions. Without the monarch and his son, the six divisions deceived stupid people on the wheel of karma. There was no Buddhism when there were three emperors and five emperors, but the monarch was clear and loyal, so I don't think Buddhism is credible.
Deeply influenced by Laozi's transformation of Hu into Buddha.
This sentence fully summarizes the understanding of Mahayana Buddhism in Middle-earth Buddhism. The attitude at that time was to give nothing, let alone get it. Do you still think I'm here if I don't let you suffer some twists and turns?
People don't know how to cherish what they get for nothing. It is an eternal truth that fighting rice is a blessing and making rice an enemy. This is also one of the truths that cannot be easily circulated.
Second, only when you are eager can you understand the value of true Buddhism.
Guanyin Bodhisattva appeared in the Tang Dynasty wearing a robe and nine rings. In the face of loyal ministers, Mahayana Buddhism can spread all over the world, and it can also transcend ghosts and gods, which can ensure the solid foundation of the Tang Dynasty.
Even if ministers don't believe it, Li Shimin won't believe it. He crossed the underworld and saw the suffering ghost. Therefore, Mahayana Buddhism will be so eager.
Later, the King of Tang heard that the Tang Priest had a difficult journey and knew more about the preciousness of Mahayana Buddhism.
On the other hand, should Buddhists accept incense money and cross gifts?
Buddhists say that everything is empty, and money is a thing outside the body. What's the use of taking it
Here I want to talk about the popularity of Buddhism. The followers who support the Three Treasures are Buddhist monks. The purpose of supporting monks is to let them spread Buddhism. If everyone starved to death, the law would be over.
Many monks collect money, not for their own selfish interests. But to sum up property, build temples and spread Buddhism. Such a person, can you say that he has pocketed his own money?
On the contrary, there are indeed some irregularities in Buddhism. For personal gain, the Buddha said that after his death, the disciples and grandchildren of Papman, the demon king, would come out to slander the Dharma, but those people were not real Buddhists, but demons hidden among all beings, and I'm afraid they didn't even know it.
Therefore, it is a truth to be quite picky, but we can't judge the arrival of autumn directly by the falling of a leaf.
Finally, the last point. Although the Buddha is boundless, there are three things that cannot be done.
This is very consistent with the dialectical point of view.
Buddha is an awakened person, with infinite life, infinite virtue and infinite light. But I still can't do three points.
Can't destroy the industry. That is to say, although the Buddha is great, he can only judge bad karma, but he can't help all living beings avoid it. Practice only tells you the method, but it can't affect your result.
You can't miss all beings. Buddhism can enlighten all beings, but it can't help people who have nothing to do with Buddhism. Just don't believe, don't practice, there is no chance.
You cannot live in this world. Buddha can measure all beings, but not all beings. Because sin can flow according to samsara, and many people have no chance or thought of it.
The second point also confirms the truth that classics cannot be passed on lightly. If you don't even pay for things outside your body, how can you say that you are related to Buddhism?
Tang Priest had nothing to offer, so he sent out the guy who ate-Zijin alms bowl. So there is not much money, even a penny, because you are willing to become attached to Buddhism in your heart. Of course, no one will insist.
Many people believe in Buddhism or prefer Taoism.
At the end, the author warns you with a sentence from Laozi's Tao Te Ching.
Staff sergeant listened and worked hard; The sergeant heard that living is death; The corporal smiled, but it was not enough to laugh.
What does this sentence mean?
Taoism also divides people who know the law naturally into three categories.
Staff sergeant is of course the most knowledgeable. When they hear the Tao, they will directly participate in it and try to practice it. The sergeant is an ordinary sentient being, seemingly believing but not believing; Corporal is one of the most stubborn people. As soon as they came into contact with Tao, they criticized and laughed loudly.
As everyone knows, even if you don't believe it, you don't slander it. This is the true meaning of plain acting. Everything that exists is reasonable. Even if you can't understand, you don't want to understand, and don't give up your awe.
