1. The Guozijian Glazed Archway is a large-scale glazed archway within the second gate of the Imperial Academy. It is the only archway in the country specifically set up for education. Both the front and back banners are inscribed by the emperor, which is a symbol of the emphasis on literature and religion in ancient China. It was built in the forty-eighth year of Qianlong (1783). On the front side of the banner is written "圜 bridge Jiao Ze", which means there are many scholars attending the lectures, and on the back side is "Xuehai Jieguan", which means that because there are many scholars attending lectures, waterways are needed to separate the students.
2. The shape of the entire archway is a glazed archway with three four-column and seven-story verandah roofs. All the exposed parts of the wooden frame that should belong to the building are covered with colored glazed veneers. The upper floors are covered with yellow glazed tiles. With green glazed brackets. The building is exquisite, grand and gorgeous. It is also the only glazed archway in Beijing that is not part of a temple.
