The original White Lotus Pagoda was built in the Chongning period of the Song Dynasty. This tower has seven square steps and is sixteen feet high. It was destroyed by the war between Zhu Yuanzhang and Zhang Shicheng in Wuzhen at the end of Yuan Dynasty. After several generations of reconstruction, during the Xianfeng period, the British and French allied forces invaded Beijing (that is, the change of Gengshen), the temple was destroyed by war, and the tower was more inclined. In the seventh year of Tongzhi (1868), on June 24th of the lunar calendar, the White Lotus Pagoda, which survived for more than 760 years, collapsed. Today, its tower foundation building has been discovered and protected.
Now, the White Lotus Pagoda was rebuilt on the island around the Tashi Grand Canal in 2005. The tower is a square seven-story brick-wood mixed building structure with a height of 5 1.75 meters. The tower foundation is a square of 24× 24 meters, and the internal ground is paved with square bricks. The whole tower gradually gathers inward from the first floor. Climbing high, you can see the scenery of the canal and Wuzhen.
