Creation background
In the seventh year of Daiwa, in Tang Wenzong (834), Li Shangyin failed in the exam and defected to Cui Rong, then the uncle of Huazhou Secretariat. In the second year, Cui Rong was transferred to Yanzhou as an observer, but died just after arriving in Yanzhou. Cui Rong not only has affection for Li Shangyin, but also has the kindness to meet him. Cui Rong's two sons, Cui Yong, Cui Zhou and Li Shangyin, are also affectionate and upright.
This poem was written in Tang Wenzong in the eighth year of Daiwa (835). At that time, Li Shangyin left the Cui family and lived in the garden pavilion of the Luo family. In loneliness, he remembered two cousins, Cui Yonghe and Cui Zhou, and wrote this verve poem.
