Should modern poetry pay attention to rhyme?
I have answered the question whether poetry must rhyme, but most of them are based on classical poetry.
Modern poetry is a wonderful flower in the local soil. It was planted in the period of large-scale invasion of modern western learning, so modern poetry was born with rebellion against traditional culture.
Ancient poetry is flat and level, while modern poetry is absolutely critical; Ancient poetry talks about antithesis, and modern poetry branches at will; Ancient poetry rhymes, and modern poetry will of course be abandoned.
But, say abandon can abandon? The road to rebellion has a long way to go.
Even words and long and short branches are still based on the difference between classical Chinese and vernacular Chinese, which is easy to rebel and abandon. But it is not so easy to get rid of "rhyme".
Poetry is verse. This has always been the case at home and abroad. Even foreign poems, the mother of modern poetry, rhyme.
Why do poems rhyme?
Poetry, poetry and poetry were originally produced by music. Even if they later existed independently of music, the tones of Chinese characters (flat tones) ensured that the melody was clear and suitable for reciting, and even they could compose music and sing. Even modern poetry can be sung as contemporary lyrics. On the other hand, the works created by modern poets belong to poetry-a part of modern poetry.
What lyrics don't rhyme?
Of course, we don't infer conclusions from phenomena. Let's see why poetry has become a "disciple's song" without music, or should it rhyme?
Rhythm is the original gene of poetry, and it is not an exaggeration to say that "rhythm" is the essential attribute of poetry. Of course, only rhythm is not necessarily poetry, and poetry has other attributes, such as speaking with images, such as pursuing implicit beauty and paying attention to thinking.
And when we lose the accompaniment of music, how can we reflect the rhythm of poetry? Nothing more than three points, flat and flat alternate-cadence; Find the right beat-read the sense of rhythm; End at the same time-rhymes.
Flat and even alternation refers to the use of Chinese characters with four tones at intervals, which makes sentences produce high and low tones. The rhythm lies in the harmony of the upper and lower sentences, such as "sunlight-mountain", so the next sentence: "Yellow River-flowing into the sea", divided by the same rhythm in the sentence pattern, it is easy to make the poem have a sense of rhythm.
Rhyme, in ancient poetry, plays the role of "sentence reading", telling you that the poem is over, and at the same time making readers feel that the psychological expectation of pronunciation generated by reading the first half of the sentence has been implemented. When reading "Sharing the Golden River with the Foreign Countries", we naturally have the expectation of "Liu" at the end of the sentence, but when reading "Going Up a storey still higher", it is sure that "Lou" rhymes with "Liu", which satisfies the readers' psychological expectation and produces a kind of recognized pleasure. Sure enough, this is the effect of rhyming. This effect will greatly enhance poetic expression.
So ancient poetry must rhyme. At worst, bet on neighboring rhymes. If the rhyme is too outrageous, it can't be called poetry.
The Rhythm of Modern Poetry
Western poetry also has a metrical style, but due to different language forms, western languages are not the same as Chinese in rhyme and rhythm. This also constitutes the different requirements of Chinese and western poets for rhythm. This loose rhythmic form of western poetry was originally a "short board" caused by its linguistic features, but it was regarded as an "advantage" or "feature" of modern poetry by China poets of that year.
This relaxed sense of rhythm, on the contrary, has greatly released the expressive force of Chinese characters and brought unprecedented special aesthetic experience, which has gradually been accepted by Chinese people.
Break the characteristics of ancient poetry one by one. What are the characteristics of modern poetry? Or is modern poetry still traceable, or is it completely free and loose? Can you write modern poetry just by pressing enter?
There are various attempts in the production stage of modern poetry. At first, they also paid attention to rhyme, but the rhyme feet were broad and lacked strict rules. The rhythm of modern poetry is also more restrained, which requires readers to try and grasp it themselves; As for the level tone and the four tones, they are completely abandoned.
There was a "new metrical school" in the early days, and the combination of metrical and modern poetry was mercilessly abandoned by modern poets because it violated the basic setting of modern poetry "born for freedom".
No longer a "poem"
But now there are "modern poems" that completely abandon rhyme. In fact, conceptually, this is no longer a "poem".
When the prose and miscellaneous culture in a work go to extremes and even abandon rhyme and internal rhythm, it is actually not a poem. The form of "Fu" in the history of literature is actually a new style produced by the combination of "Poetry" and ancient "Prose".
The combination of modern poetry and modern prose forms a new literary genre, that is, prose poetry. Prose poetry is neither prose nor poetry.
No matter whether it is a modern poem or an ancient poem that is still being created, we can call it a poem as long as we can adhere to the true colors of these three poems, that is, rhyme, tone sandhi and sense of rhythm, no matter how other structures change.
Once a work abandons these three basic attributes, especially rhyme, it is not a poem. It may be prose poems, essays, essays, haiku, jokes, golden sentences, whatever. But it's not poetry anymore.
Modern poetry still rhymes. As for whether to attach importance to it or not, it depends on the poet's writing characteristics.
