Worldly and sad poems

Vernacular translation:

Nothing in the world can compensate for the sadness of spring. Facing the heaven, we should cry and have a rest.

400 million people, cry together. The vast distance, where is the territory of China?

Author Tan Sitong? Ching Dynasty

There is nothing in the world worth the sadness of spring, so I cry to Cang Ming.

Forty million people shed tears together. Where is China at the end of the world?

This poem expresses the author's infinite anxiety and grief over the country's collapse and peril, and expresses his indignation at the corruption and incompetence of the Qing Dynasty and the betrayal of the country in pursuit of glory. However, this poem does not make people indulge in sadness and grief, but gives people a potential power to awaken and struggle. Express one's feelings directly, with strong feelings, broad vision and thick brushwork, which adds the power of grief and emotion through backbiting. This is the writing feature of this poem.

Extended data

This poem was written in the spring of the 22nd year of Guangxu (1896). On March 23rd of the first year, the Qing government was defeated in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 and signed the treaty of shimonoseki with Japan. This is a great stimulus to Tan Sitong.

He said in the theory of running script: "after this great pain, it is the beginning of giving up everything ... when you forget to eat, you will wake up again and again and wander around the house, not knowing what to do." Then, another spring came. He aroused Wan Hu's "Spring Sorrow" and wrote this poem.
