Rhododendron? Planck ): Also known as Yingshanhong and Shan Shiliu, they are evergreen or ordinary green shrubs. According to legend, there was a cuckoo in ancient times, which crowed day and night, hemoptysis, and dyed flowers all over the mountain, hence the name.
Rhododendron was first recorded in Shennong Herbal Classic in Han Dynasty, in which Euonymus japonicus was listed as a poisonous plant. Rhododendron has been cultivated for at least 1000 years.
In the Tang Dynasty, ornamental azaleas appeared, and azaleas had been transplanted into gardens for cultivation. Bai Juyi (772-846), a famous poet in the Tang Dynasty, had a soft spot for azaleas. He not only wrote many poems praising azaleas, but also transplanted them himself. The first transplant did not survive, he wrote, "there is no reason to transfer them to others." In 820, it was finally transplanted. The poem says: "Today's flowers in Zhongzhou, the trees at the top of Lushan Mountain last year, have pity on the roots and cut new branches. Fortunately, bloom is still counted." According to records, rhododendrons were collected and cultivated in the first year of Tang Zhenguan (785), and the most famous one was the rhododendrons cultivated in Helin Temple in Zhenjiang.
In the Song Dynasty, the cultivation of rhododendron had a new development. The poet Wang once transplanted azaleas in the courtyard: "The garden is small for personal use, and this flower is better than a golden belt." An Zhi in the Spring Forest in the Southern Song Dynasty: "Du Fu, this flower is very prosperous in the Qiantangmen Bodaiji. Su Dongpo has a poem by Du Fu in Nanyitang, which is kept in this hall. There are many flowers in the mountains. " It shows that azaleas are more common in quadrangles in Hangzhou.
By the Ming Dynasty, we had a better understanding of rhododendrons, such as Shui Chang Er Ji Fang by Zhiliang, Dali Fu Zhi by 1563, Compendium of Materia Medica by 1587, and Xu Xiake's travels, which recorded the varieties, habits, distribution, application, reproduction and potted plants of rhododendrons to varying degrees. For example, 1563 "Dali Fu Ji" records that there are 47 species of rhododendrons, and all the monasteries in Dali, such as Chongsheng Temple and Gantong Temple, have planted rhododendrons and bred them into five-color compound petals. "Grass Flower Spectrum" records that "Sichuan is the best place for azaleas, called Sichuan Rhododendron, which has more than ten layers and is very red in color; From Siming (now Siming Mountain in Zhejiang), there are two or three layers of flowers, and the color is light. "
By the Qing dynasty, there had been a bonsai shape of azaleas. Zhu Guozhen's "Architectural Sketch" records that "azaleas bloom in February and March when azaleas sing. There are two kinds of azaleas. One is to leave leaves before flowers (leaves before flowers). The sedan chair is like blood; The second is the name of "flowers before leaves" (flowers before leaves), which is pale and many people are tied to the shape of auspicious peaks. Moreover, there have been a whole set of experiences and many records about the cultivation of azaleas, such as "Flower Mirror", "Prose of Yuanda Group", "A New Talk in Southern Yunnan", "A Doll in a Pot" and so on. During the Jiaqing period (1796- 1820), potted rhododendrons ranked sixth among the "18th Bachelor" in Jiangsu. During the Daoguang period (182 1- 1850), the records of "western tea, western rhododendron, camellia and rhododendron" mentioned in "leaning on the bridge" indicate that the cultivation of western rhododendron has been introduced to China at this time.
