Because of its long history, most of the early Great Wall was incomplete, and now the Great Wall built in Ming Dynasty is relatively complete. So when people talk about the Great Wall, they mainly refer to the Ming Great Wall. The length of the Great Wall also indicates the length of the Great Wall, from Jiayuguan in the west to Yalu River in the east. The Ming dynasty was divided into nine military regions, and the nearby "towns" were responsible for defense, jurisdiction and the construction of the Great Wall in this area. The section length and start-stop time of each jurisdiction are as follows:
The Great Wall under the jurisdiction of Liaodong Town, from Yalu River (near Dandong) to Shanhaiguan, is more than 970 kilometers long. The Great Wall under the jurisdiction of Jiyun Town starts from Shanhaiguan in the east and ends at Huilingkou in Juyongguan in the west, with a total length of more than 600 kilometers.
The Great Wall under the jurisdiction of Fu Xuan Town starts from Juyongguan Sihaiye in the east and ends at Xiyang River (northeast of Datong, Shanxi) in the west, with a total length of 5 1 1.5 km. The Great Wall under the jurisdiction of Datong Town starts from Zhenkoutai in the east and ends at Yajiao Mountain in the west (northeast of Shanxi Pianguan), with a total length of 323.5 kilometers.
The Great Wall under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Town starts from the bank of the Yellow River in Baode in the west, from Zongpianguan, Ningwu, Yanmenguan, Pingxingguan, Longquan Pass and Guguan to Huang Yuling, with a total length of more than 800 kilometers. The Great Wall under the jurisdiction of Yansui Town starts from Qingshuiying in the east (now Qingshuihe County, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region) and ends at Huamachi in the west (now Yanchi County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region), with a total length of 885 kilometers.
The Great Wall under the jurisdiction of Ningxia Town starts from Dayanchi (now Yanchi County, Ningxia) in the east and ends at Blue Whale in the west, with a total length of 1 000 km. The Great Wall under the jurisdiction of Guyuan Town starts from Jingbian in the east and ends at Gaolan in the west, with a total length of 500 kilometers.
The Great Wall under the jurisdiction of Gansu Town starts from Jincheng (now Lanzhou) in Gansu Province in the east and ends at Jiayuguan in the west, with a total length of more than 80 kilometers. The total length of the Great Wall under the jurisdiction of the above nine towns is more than 6350 kilometers, which is the length of the Ming Great Wall we are talking about today. However, this is only based on historical documents. In fact, there are several walls in some places, and the actual length may be longer. A few years ago, all provinces made surveys, and before the survey results came out, the above statistics should prevail.
