Where did Deng Shichang, who died heroically in the Sino-Japanese War, go?

Deng Shichang personally drove Zhiyuan Ship to Yoshino Ship, the main Japanese warship, at full speed. Japanese officers and men were terrified when they saw the Zhiyuan ship rushing over, and concentrated their firepower on the Zhiyuan ship. A shell hit the torpedo tube of Zhiyuan ship, causing Zhiyuan ship to sink to the bottom of the sea.

After Deng Shichang fell into the sea, he refused to help and said loudly, "I am determined to kill the enemy and serve the country. If I die in the sea today, I can't live! " My dog saw that he was loyal and wanted to save him, but Deng Shichang was determined to serve his country after his death, so he threw the dog into the sea, disappeared with himself in the rough sea, and died with the officers and men of the whole ship.

After Deng Shichang's martyrdom, the whole country shook, and his national integrity and heroic deeds were admired by the ruling and opposition parties. Emperor Guangxu wrote with tears that "this day is full of tears, and there is a strong naval force", giving Deng Shichang posthumous title "integrity" and posthumous title "Prince Shao Bao" to enter the capital Zhao Zhong Hall. Guangxu also wrote the memorial, which was inscribed by Yu Bi's relatives.

Li Hongzhang said that "playing for the fallen Dadonggou Navy members" was meritorious, saying: "... Deng Shichang and Liu Ye contributed." The Qing court also gave Deng's mother a large plaque made of 65,438 +0.5 kilograms of gold, and allocated 65,438+2 million yuan to Deng's family to show their support for the elderly.

Deng used the money to build a monument for Deng Shichang and a ancestral temple for Deng. The people of Weihai felt their loyalty and built a shrine for the statue of Deng Shichang on Chengshan in 1899 to show their eternal admiration.

Deng's mother often takes out the goggles she used before her death to educate future generations. The national interest is above everything else. Deng's descendants always remember the family precepts and always put national interests first.

Let's look back on the hero's life and pay tribute to him!

Deng Shichang was born in troubled times (1849), China just experienced the defeat of the Opium War, and the Chinese nation began the process of humiliation, suffering and exploration. The Opium War broke out in Deng Shichang's hometown. His hometown is Longxianli, Longdaowei Township, Panyu County, Guangdong Province, which is today No.2 Longxianli, Longzhuzhi Street, Baogang Avenue, Haizhu District, Guangzhou. There are six brothers and sisters in the family, and he ranks fourth.

Lin Zexu's story of destroying opium in Humen, the people's resistance to Britain in Sanyuanli, and the profound patriotic tradition and open and inclusive atmosphere in his hometown played a great role in his future growth.

Deng Shichang was "resolute and ambitious" when he was a child. His father, Deng Huanzhuang, specializes in tea business. He opened Xiangfayuan Teahouse in Guangzhou, Tianjin, Shanghai, Hankou, Hong Kong, Qinhuangdao and other places, and built Deng's ancestral hall.

Because of Guangzhou's open atmosphere and well-off family, Deng Huanzhuang is very open-minded in cultivating Deng Shichang. Due to business needs, he took Deng Shichang to Shanghai to study English, and then learned advanced scientific knowledge from abroad.

In Shanghai, Deng Shichang witnessed the rampage of foreign warships in Huangpu River, which strengthened his determination to join the army and serve the country. He lamented: "Foreign countries bully others, and I will strive to become a strong country." If you want to strengthen the country, you must first strengthen the army! "Since then, becoming a navy has always been his dream.

Later, Shen Baozhen, Lin Zexu's son-in-law, became Fuzhou Mawei Ship Administration Minister, and at the same time opened Mawei Ship Administration School to select talents through examinations. Deng Shichang successfully passed the driving major because of his excellent grades. Deng Shichang studied in the School of Ship Administration for five years, and worked hard from beginning to end, constantly striving for self-improvement, with excellent examinations in all subjects. Won the unanimous praise of foreign teachers.

He gained many experience opportunities, and served as the first mate of the "Chen Hang" transport ship, the duct tape of the Haidong Cloud gunboat and the first mate of the "Wu Yang" cruiser. During this period, Fuzhou Ship Administration School sent people to study in Britain and France. Deng Shichang had a chance to go, but because of the lack of excellent naval talents, he missed this opportunity and let him continue to experience in China.

In the sixth year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1880), Li Hongzhang prepared to organize the Beiyang Navy, and let people go to various places to collect talents. Ma Jianzhong was ordered to go to Fujian, and when he heard the praises of Deng Shichang, he planned to visit the mosquito gunboat Feiting in Deng Shichang. When he got to the warship, he saw that Deng Shichang was well managed and the soldiers did their jobs. He exchanged views with Deng Shichang many times and spoke highly of Deng Shichang.

After Ma Jianzhong's inspection, he returned to Tientsin to report the inspection results to Li Hongzhang, and had an excellent evaluation of Deng Shichang. That summer, Li Hongzhang also cherished talents and asked the court to transfer Deng Shichang to the Beiyang Navy as the "Zhennan" mosquito gun ship. At the end of the same year, the two cruisers "Chaoyong" and "Yangwei" ordered by Beiyang Navy in Britain were completed. Beiyang Navy prefect Ding led more than 200 navy officers and men to Britain to pick up the ship, accompanied by Deng Shichang.

This time, Deng Shichang took over the British ship, which opened his eyes and saw the huge gap between beiyang fleet's training and management, and strengthened his determination to become an excellent naval general.

On August 17, two ships, Chaoyong and Yangwei, set sail from Newcastle, England, and began a long voyage from England via the North Atlantic-Mediterranean-Suez Canal-Indian Ocean-Western Pacific-China. This is the first time that the China Navy has sent warships to the ocean, and countries along the way have saluted, greatly expanding China's international influence. The first time I went abroad to pick up a ship, Beiyang Navy sent the best ship carrying pipe belt. Lin Tai once manipulated Chao Yong and Deng Shichang manipulated Yang Wei. Deng Shichang, who went abroad to pick up the ship for the second time, is recognized as a naval military expert who is "knowledgeable in western learning" and "good at training", and is also a rigorous naval general in running the army.

After returning home, Deng Shichang completed the tasks assigned by the imperial court for many times, which made him rise all the way, and in the 17th year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1889), he officially became the pipeline of Zhiyuan Ship.

Due to his busy official duties, he only went back to his hometown three times in 27 years, and he devoted his life to the country. So that his father died of illness, so that he failed to return to his hometown in time, which is a lifelong regret. Deng Shichang's spirit of dying for his country deserves our admiration.
