Introduction to Yang Cheng

Yang Cheng, the master of Mo Mei Zhai, is from Xi'an. A member of the Chinese Calligraphy Association, he has served as deputy secretary-general of the Shaanxi Calligraphy and Painting Association, deputy director of the Shaanxi Painting and Calligraphy Academy, and director of the Huaqing Painting and Calligraphy Academy. He was born into a scholarly family. His father Yang Zhongcai's running calligraphy was well-known in the ancient city. He had close contacts with Mr. Yu Youren and Mr. Yang Hucheng. He respected Mr. Youren since he was a child, and later received guidance from Mr. Yu. Mr. Yang's grandfather and father were famous for engraving plaques, so he was very fond of calligraphy. He said that his regular script was knocked out by his grandfather using a pipe pot. Influenced by the stone carvings in the Forest of Steles, Mr. Yang loves Wei steles, decadent styles, and Han li steles, and often goes to the Forest of Steles to copy them hundreds of times.
