The East Pavilion of Shanghai Museum, located in Hua Mu Community, Pudong New Area, Shanghai, has a total construction area of113200m2, which is much larger than the existing area of 39,300m2 of Shanghai Museum. On April 14, 2023, the East Pavilion of Shanghai Museum, located in Hua Mu Plate, Pudong New Area, entered the internal hardcover stage. The East Pavilion of Shanghai Museum is expected to be completed and opened by the end of 2023.
After the completion and opening up, the East Pavilion of Shanghai Museum will be a permanent exhibition, presenting the audience with a complete system, clear context, detailed historical materials and vivid narrative of the general history of China ancient art at home and abroad, as well as four series of Shanghai style and Jiangnan culture, cultural exchanges and interactive experiences between China and foreign countries. The total construction area of Shanghai East Pavilion is113200m2, with six floors above ground, including exhibition, public service, storage and office, and the building height is 45m. The second floor underground 12.9 meters deep, mainly for academic lecture halls, cinemas, activity classrooms, etc. More than 20 exhibition halls, large and small, and a large number of educational experience venues. The exhibition area is 33,600 square meters, and it is estimated that the annual audience reception will reach 5 million.
From the outside, its facade is tortuous, elegant and tall, with extraordinary momentum. From the appearance, this building is a rectangular block. The design of the whole building is people-oriented and cultural relics-centered, which improves the common closed streamline design. Open leisure side halls, outdoor terraces and gardens are set in different locations to highlight the interaction between architectural space and urban space.
