It is called Guange style

Interpretation

①Style name. Refers to the style of writing that strives for elegance and solemnity that is popular in museums and pavilions. Guange refers to the official office in charge of the collection of classics and the compilation of national history. It began in the Song Dynasty; the Hanlin Academy in the Ming and Qing dynasties was also called Guange. ②Book style name. Refers to the writing style popular in pavilions and imperial examination rooms. Although it is square and smooth, it is rigid and rigid. It is the product of the rigid calligraphy style of imperial examinations in the Ming and Qing dynasties. It was called "Taige style" in the Ming Dynasty, and was renamed "Guange style" in the Qing Dynasty.

Qing Hong Liangji's "Beijiang Poetry Talk": "The round and plump style of regular script today is called the 'Guange style', and all the categories are the same. After the middle period of Qianlong, the Sikuguan opened, and its style Yisheng. However, this style has existed in Tang and Ning Dynasties: Duan Chengshi's "Youyang Zazu. Guixi" contains official regular scripts, and Shen Kuo's "Bi Tan" says: Sanguan regular script cannot be said to be neither refined nor beautiful, so we should strive for it. The best thing is that you will never be able to make a single stroke until you die. I thought it would be better if the scholar-bureaucrats followed suit. "

The so-called "Tai Pavilion" originally refers to Shangshu. By extension, it is a surrogate name for the government. "Linchi Guanjian" by Zhou Xinglian of the Qing Dynasty: "Since the practice of Tie Kuo, the calligraphy and farewell are integrated into one, earth dragon puppet, and no interest." Therefore, "Taige style" is a derogatory term when evaluating calligraphy.

Guange style is an officially used calligraphy style, especially regular script. In the imperial examination examination hall, this style of calligraphy must be used. It emphasizes the originality of regular script, that is, standardization, beauty, neatness and generosity, and does not emphasize the so-called individuality today. Because calligraphy has never been regarded as an art in Chinese history, but it has been regarded as culture. This issue also needs to be discussed and will not be discussed here for the time being. Most of the handwriting that can be seen in the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace are in the pavilion style, but they have been damaged beyond recognition. As for the small regular script written by the Qing Dynasty, they basically belong to the Guange style, but not necessarily. For example, the small regular script of Liu Chunlin, the number one scholar in the late Qing Dynasty, was more focused on the style of the Tang Dynasty small regular script. However, due to the limitations of the times, it still had the style of the pavilion style. In my opinion, blindly denouncing or praising the Guange style is considered extreme. As a calligraphy style used by the government, Guange style emphasizes independence and standardization, which is understandable. Taking the opportunity to criticize Guange style for lacking individuality and selling the ugly calligraphy style of today is obviously exposed. Unhealthy psychology; and from the perspective of appreciating beauty, things that lack personality are also imperfect. From the perspective of the general premise of calligraphy, she must have the dual beauty of personality and individuality. Therefore, from the perspective of appreciating beauty alone, the pavilion style has certain limitations. The disadvantage is that thousands of people have the same appearance and the same tone. Therefore, Often vulgar. The Guange style gradually evolved from the two styles of Ou and Zhao. Because Ou and Zhao were so powerful, rulers of all dynasties regarded them as authentic, and thus became the only way to learn calligraphy. Again, the personalities of Ou and Zhao were reduced for the sake of standardization. The regular script we see in newspapers and periodicals today is also the official calligraphy style and is very similar to the Guange style. In short, those who attack the Guange style today are mostly characterized by people who are not good at writing regular script. They say "the grapes are sour". And those who love Guange style are mostly people who have low achievements in regular script.
