Introduction to Mingshan

Mingshan (1914-2001) was a native of Yancheng County, Jiangsu Province (now part of Jianhu, Jiangsu Province). He believed in Buddhism with his mother since he was a child. He was ordained and became a monk at the temple in his hometown at the age of 19. At the age of 20, he went to Jiaoshan, Zhenjiang to become a monk. Huisi received full ordination and was admitted to the first class of Jiaoshan Buddhist College in 1933. During the Anti-Japanese War, Mingshan handled Buddhist association affairs in Nanyue, Hengyang and other places in Hunan, founded a Buddhist seminary, and served in Hengyang, Laiyang, Ning The abbot of the temples in the township; after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he returned to Dinghui Temple and served as the supervisor and academic director of the Buddhist College; in 1947, he attended the Representative Conference of the Chinese Buddhist Association and was elected as a director of the Chinese Buddhist Association; after the founding of the People's Republic of China, he successively served as the director of Dinghui Temple and Qixia Temple Abbot, executive director and vice president of the Buddhist Association of China; Mingshan has profound attainments in Buddhism, is good at poetry, and is good at calligraphy. He is the author of "Mingshan Collected Works"; in addition, he also has "Lecture Notes on the Actions and Vows of the Samantabhadra Sutra", "Lecture Notes on the Sutra of Maitreya" and others are in circulation1; passed away on June 1, 2001.
