Feng Youlan calligraphy

Shupu is the most important work of Sun, a calligraphy theorist in the Tang Dynasty. Among them, the calligraphy realm of "people's books will be old" is fascinating.

"Communication", as its name implies, can be understood as mutual communication, mutual understanding and mutual fulfillment, without obstacles or even losses.

"Meeting" refers to the result of communication, understanding and achievement, that is, people and books are internal and external to each other.

In the early stage of learning calligraphy, even if you have a deep understanding and knowledge of calligraphy, your hand's control over the brush must be naive, and you can't completely manipulate this brush to write ideal works according to your own will. Only by constantly learning and training some skills, so as to express one's artistic pursuit and artistic character at will, can it be said that it is a time of "communication", but it is only communication, not a high level. So what is the highest state?

For this highest state, Sun also gave an explanation: "People and books are old". What do you mean always? Mature! It also means that the realm of life and calligraphy has reached its peak.

Mr. Feng Youlan, the most famous philosopher in China, divided the realm of life into four steps, from low to high, namely, natural realm, utilitarian realm, moral realm and heaven and earth realm.

The realm of heaven and earth, the unity of heaven, earth and people. According to Laozi, it is in an extremely natural state of freedom, tranquility and emptiness.

The most famous classification and description of calligraphy realm is in the book "Art Boat and Twin Towers" written by Bao Shicheng, a calligraphy theorist in Qing Dynasty, which divides calligraphy realm into five categories: spirit, beauty, ability, first-rate and excellent.

It can be seen that the classification of human realm and calligraphy realm has some similarities, which is quite interesting.

It can be found that being a man has reached the highest realm-the realm of heaven and earth; At the same time, the creation of calligraphy has reached the highest level-the realm of divine products, which is what Sun said: "People and books are old".

In this state, the most typical features, whether people or manipulated brushes, can reach the most natural and free state of "doing whatever you want without overstepping the bounds".

"At the meeting, people and books are old", and life and calligraphy go hand in hand. What a lofty realm!
