Human geography of Shanxi Town in Dachao

In the first year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1723), Mengma Chieftain Tianhe hired a Confucian scholar from Shunning, Yang Kuo, to teach in Mengma. Legend has it that Grandmaster Yang taught well, and his salary was greatly appreciated by Tianhe. When he was given his salary at the end of the year, Grandmaster Yang refused to accept it and only offered to have a place to live and work in peace and contentment. Feng Tianhe gave him the current Changputang Village. From then on, Yang Ao settled here and taught in an ancient temple in Changputang Village. Grandmaster Yang is deeply respected by the local villagers. His son Yang Xuzu was taught by his father, and because he was smart and studious, he was highly praised by his peers. But Yang Xuzu unfortunately died young in his prime. His wife, Mrs. Lu, was loyal and devoted and worked hard to bring up her son Yang Rumei. Under the diligent education of her mother, Lu, Yang Rumei was gentle, kind, and good at writing and martial arts. She had done many good things for the local villagers, but she died at the age of 25. His wife Li Shi followed the example of her mother-in-law and never wavered, and went through all kinds of hardships to raise her son Yang Caizhi. Later, Yang Caizhi passed the examination as a supervisor and was known as the new master. Yang Xinye was talented, but unfortunately he died of illness in his prime. His wife, Mrs. Xu, buried her husband with tears and shouldered the heavy responsibility of raising their children and supporting their elderly mother. All three generations of the Yang family died young. When Yang Zhanchun, Yang Caizhi's son, grew up, he reported to the court the filial piety of his family for three generations. In the 17th year of Jiaqing (1812), a decree was issued to honor the Yang Xu family, and the "Three Generations of Filial Piety Archway" was granted to praise the merits of the Yang family. The archway was built in today's Changputang Village, so Changputang is also called the archway.

The archway is a structure with four columns, three hollows and two platforms. The four columns are one foot square, the hollow is one foot, the two sides are seven feet hollow, and the height is one foot, six feet and six inches. It is hollow and can be used by two people riding horses side by side. It is inlaid with nine marbles at a height of one foot. On the stones are engraved the year of the tree workshop, the list of craftsmen who established the workshop, the list of donors, poems and couplets written by celebrities, etc. The calligraphy is fluent and the patterns are lifelike. The entire archway is majestic in shape, showing the wisdom and superb skills of the working people. This archway has experienced more than a hundred years of wind and rain, and was later completely destroyed due to family disputes in 1950 and the Cultural Revolution in 1966. Today, some broken stones and columns can still be found on the original site.
