Etymology

Yan Zhenqing was an outstanding and famous calligrapher in the Tang Dynasty. When the "Anshi Rebellion" broke out, Yan Zhenqing served as the governor of Pingyuan and took the lead in leading the rebels to resist the rebels. Seventeen nearby states responded on the same day and elected Zhenqing as the leader of the alliance. He later became the Minister of the Ministry of Punishment and was named the Founding Duke of Lu County, so later generations called him "Yan Lu Gong". Later, Li Xilie, the Jiedushi envoy of the Huaining Army, rebelled. Zhenqing was appointed by the imperial court as the Huaining Army's propaganda envoy and went to give advice. Li Xilie repeatedly threatened and induced Zhenqing to become a fake official, but Zhenqing refused to comply and cursed the traitor. Li Xilie hanged him to death. Yan Zhenqing won the infinite admiration of future generations for his upright, loyal and patriotic character. Zheng Xun, the Minister of Rites during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, had an upright character and a strong sense of loyalty to the emperor. He especially respected Yan Zhenqing as a person. One year he presided over the imperial examination. One of the candidates was named Yan Biao. Zheng Xun mistakenly thought he was a descendant of Yan Zhenqing. In fact, Yan Biao's articles were not very good, but out of his admiration for Yan Zhenqing and in order to inspire the world and promote loyalty, Zheng Xun actually admitted him as the top scholar. Later, when Yan Biao thanked the chief secretary (i.e., the examiner), Zheng Xun asked about his family's temple (an ancestral hall where famous families who had been officials for generations in ancient times worshiped their ancestors). Yan Biao replied: "The student's family is poor and there is no temple. "Zheng Xun suddenly realized that he had done something wrong and regretted it endlessly. But at this time, the list had been released and there was no way to correct it, so I had to remain silent. This matter finally spread, and someone made up two jingles to mock Zheng Xun: "The boss is so stupid that he mistakenly identified Yan Biao as Mr. Lu."
