The Chongyang Palace is located at the northern foot of Zhongnan Mountain, Zu'an Town, Huyi District, Xi'an City, next to County Road 105. The opening hours are generally 8:30-17:00 from Monday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday 8:00-17:00 on Sunday. Generally, the tour can be completed in 1 to 2 hours.
Chongyang Wanshou Palace was founded in the Jin Dynasty, flourished in the Yuan Dynasty, declined in the Ming Dynasty, and was destroyed in the Qing Dynasty. It is more than 800 years ago. It is the place where Wang Chongyang, the founder of the Quanzhen School of Taoism, practiced and enlightened and was buried. It is the most important of the three ancestral palaces of the Quanzhen sect of Taoism in my country (Baiyun Temple in Beijing, Yongle Palace in Shanxi, and Chongyang Palace in Hu County). It was known as the "ancestral court of the world" in the Jin Dynasty and has always enjoyed the reputation of "Quanzhen Holy Land". Jin Zhangzong gave it the name "Lingxu Temple", and the Emperor of the Yuan Dynasty named it "Dachongyang Longevity Palace". At its peak, the palace extended to the Laoyu River in the east, the Baima River in the west, the Qinling Mountains in the south, and the Weishui River in the north. There were more than 5,000 palaces and pavilions, and nearly 10,000 Taoist priests lived there.
The Chongyang Palace gradually declined after the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the palace area was gradually reduced. The existing Lingguan Palace and Qizhen Palace were rebuilt during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty.
There are more than 80 steles related to the history of the Quanzhen sect of Taoism preserved in the Chongyang Palace. Among them, the famous ones include the portrait steles of the founder Wang Chongyang and Qizhen, the poem "Wu Meng Ling" written by Wang Chongyang, and the "Wu Meng Ling" written by the Yuan Dynasty calligrapher Zhao Mengfu. The Monument of Imperial Clothes of the Great Yuan Dynasty and the Monument of Emperor Yuan Sunzhen’s Taoism, the five-passage stele of the imperial edict of the Yuan Dynasty emperor on the Han and Mongolian walls, and the painting stele of Zhong Kui Playing with Ghosts by Daozi of the Tang and Wu Dynasties. The "Ancestral Court of the World" stele with the theme of Zhang Yu, the eighth generation of heavenly masters, has extremely high historical and cultural value.
The overall architecture of Chongyang Palace still maintains the Ming and Qing style of the palace. Taoist temples are arranged on the central axis according to Taoist regulations and the history of Chongyang Palace. The single building inherits the high-table style of the Yuan Dynasty and is magnificent, highlighting the sanctity and dignity of the Taoist ancestors to satisfy Taoist believers at home and abroad who come to worship the ancestral home. The east and west sides are divided into areas for viewing the forest of steles, worshiping at the Double Ninth Tomb, Wuzhen Hall, Jiedai, Health Hall and Taoist Living Areas. Together with the beautiful mountains, rocks, water, winding bridges, bamboo shadows, pines, ancient cypresses, Penglai sunset, etc., it forms an amazing place. An imaginative paradise on earth.
Although today's Chongyang Palace does not have the splendor of the past, with the characters and events in Jin Yong's martial arts novels "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" and "The Legend of the Condor Heroes", I believe you can find yourself here. The sky of reverie.
