Reading and Loyalty —— Biography of Yan Zhenqing

Take the thinking in calligraphy class as a reading record.

Knowing Yan Zhenqing's life, do you have a different experience when you look back and appreciate what he wrote? Let's talk about it.

The teacher said that only by having a deeper understanding of Yan Zhenqing's life story can we have a deeper understanding of his calligraphy. So I went to the library and borrowed this book "Loyalty to the Soul-A Biography of Yan Zhenqing". Only after reading this book did I know that Yan Zhenqing had a great personality. As the book says, all his vertical and horizontal works come from worrying about the country and the people, with a strong and fierce great soul, and all of them have devoted their deep love to the land and people of China. Yan paid equal attention to morality, literature, literature and knowledge from generation to generation. When Yan Zhenqing and his brothers were young, when they read Mencius on Ugliness and read the sentence "I am good at nurturing my noble spirit", they all found it difficult to understand, so they asked their uncle. My uncle said that noble spirit is a moral spirit of great righteousness, courage, masculinity, honesty, perseverance and unyielding. Mencius said that he was good at maintaining, enriching and carrying forward this spirit, making it full of heaven and earth. What's the use of this noble spirit for us ordinary people? Yan Zhenqing replied: I think no matter who you are, you should maintain and carry forward this noble spirit. The greater this spirit, the more you can become an upright and kind person. Uncle added: if you practice calligraphy, you must maintain and carry forward the lofty spirit! With abundant integrity, words can be written with more dignity, rigidity, muscle and masculinity. Yan Zhenqing has been carrying forward this noble spirit all his life. His loyalty to the Fourth Emperor of the Tang Dynasty was repeatedly framed and relegated, but his loyalty and integrity were never destroyed, and he always cared about national security and the sufferings of the people. When he was in a high position, he never asked for bribes, collected money, was spotless and remained uncorrupted. There have even been cases where the whole family can't eat porridge and ask friends for porridge many times. At the age of seventy, Yan Zhenqing could have returned to his hometown to be an official, but he didn't get permission. At that time, Lu Qishan, the prime minister of Dezong, was a flatterer. He can't stand Yan Zhenqing's integrity and straightforwardness. Dezong was worried about the separatist regime and rebellion in the buffer region. He listened to Qilu's slanders and sent Yan Zhenqing to appease the cruel rebel leader Li Xilie. Although Yan Zhenqing knew that this trip was a trap for treacherous court officials, it was tantamount to a trap, and there was no return. He died generously and was finally forced to die by Li Xilie. This is his loyalty to the imperial dynasty, but it is also his choice.
